Default chiefs' special

waaal settle back, old timer, and listen to a tale of a model 36.

seems this here pistol was purchased by my brother from a garage - slash - store in Diamond Bar, Ca of somewhat dubious legality. I drove him there to pick it up...I remember the hills...back in the 70s sometime, but I misremembers the year)...

this model 36 has a bull barrel and a square butt.

and so it came to pass that my brother who had mental problems fell asleep with said revolver on his pillow and dad confiscated same. which redounded to me in the way of all things.

before we discuss the current state of the weapon, let's review the salient events:

before dad's confiscation, it fell off a motorcycle at speed.

around 1980 black mike, krypto and I shot it a few times in the Cucamonga wastes, not hitting the empty beer bottles, but being cut short by a fat Cadillac full of people bouncing up the dirt road to tell us to go away, and black mike joking in the car later that we should have said, 'stop that grinnin and drop that linen' and boy did we laugh.

in the early 90s I took a dame to an indoor range so she could try shooting a gun for defense...we never hit anything with my gun, not even the balloons I glued to the target.

eventually I looked at the gun. crooked barrel. canted to the left perceptibly. sent it to S&W. got it back.

was at Burro Canyon recently. set several clays on the 80 yard berm. for a laugh I tried the piece. close left. close right. third shot obliterated it. I slammed the gun down and strutted arms akimbo!

how DO you like me now?

What’s the serial number? I had two stolen in a burglary right around that time.
