Default Model 19-4 Value check

Hi Guys, I'm new to revolvers and just traded for a model 19-4 blued 4 inch. It looks brand new. I was amazed at how nice it looks and I was just wondering what I could get for it if I sold it. It has the original box and cleaning kit. The guy a traded with said he got it from an Austin Cop. He said he had never shot it before, but I doubt that lol. Can anyone tell me when it was made the first four digits for the serial number are 63K9? Thanks in advance for any help!

All 63K numbers were issued in 1980.

It looks like it was shipped about 1980. It should be pinned and recessed which may enhance its value. If I had to throw out a number, I would say $750, considering it looks new with box etc.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you've scored quite a nice model 19 as your first Smith. They will likely start to multiply as you start to appreciate their fine beauty and craftsmanship.

Your 19-4 likely shipped in early 1980. Congrats again on the trade.

P.S. We all love pictures here, post one up!

It will bring top dollar. I would say $750, to $800.

It's hard to state a value because of so many variables. Ok, your 19 looks like new and you have the original box with tools. Here in California I would expect to see another $100 on it or $850. I recently saw a real nice 17-4, like new with an 8-3/8" barrel and don't know if it comes with a box or anything and they're asking $1200. I feel that is about $300 more than it should be but someone will probably pay it. You said you're new to revolvers well, you're in for a real treat. You have a real nice revolver and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy my two 19s.

thanks for all the replies. Looks like I didn't do bad on my Trade. I was asking $700 for the rifle I traded. Now I just need about a thousand other guns to complete a collection lol.

I concur. At least that much...maybe a bit more.

Here is mine from 1983 or early 1983. One of the first non-pinned. Don't think that I would sell it at this point.

Mine is pinned, Does that help or hurt value?

That helps the value. People want pinned and recessed Smith and Wessons.

I think you did well with the trade. I have your twin-bought it new in 1980. Still looks new. Wouldn't sell it for 3x the prices that are posted here. They do tend to multiple.
