Default My first S&W

Hi guys, I just bought a used .38 Special today and would like to know about how old it is and maybe a ball-park estimate of its value.

Serial number is on the butt plate:7D14793
Model 64-2
(2" bbl, 6 shot)
Stainless

Thanks!

Based on the serial, it should be 1981 production. And a ballpark estimate of its value would be about what you just bought it for .

Seriously, these are too new to have collectors value, so used and without photos to assess condition, I'm reluctant to guess. If you can get a picture or two up, folks will have a much easier time telling you what they would've paid for it.

I would think that $400 would be average for a 4" square butt M10. But this is a stainless / 2" / round butt (each one a plus if you want to carry it). To boot, it looks great.

Mark me down for $500.

If it were here in front of me and was as mechanically fit as it appears and I wanted it I would go upwards to $550.

As previously mentioned above it has a lot going for it.

Looks great. I had a model 15 snub and could shoot at 50 yard no problem. The old guns are gems; buy them while you can as they slowly get harder to find.

Looks great for being 36 years old , and will only increase in value due to the pinned barrel. And while it may be no interest to a collector as pointed out, serious Smith & Wesson aficionados will always be willing to but it.

Welcome to the FORUM! Nice 1st 1! 2" K frames are a fairly hot item these days. I bought a 10-5 last march. It is the same gun in blue. I really like shooting it. Bob

2" and 3" K-frames are in high demand. I would love to find one with a pinned barrel. I'd go $550 or even $600.

Default First S&W

Sell it now and get out while you can. It's too late for most of us on the forum. Next you will be checking the For Sale section twice a day for your
next revolver.

Nice purchase! I think you'll enjoy shooting it, and if you take food care of it, it will never decrease in value!

How do you like the T-grip on it? was thinking about one for my old M&P snubby.

It is a BK. Not so much. Have had it on 3 or 4 guns, and it always comes off. I just hang on to it. Bob

Congrats, that is a great revolver. I recently bought a 1981 vintage 64-2 snub myself, paid $389 with box and papers. It wasn't my first S&W however, closer to my 50th. Those 64 snubs are surprisingly accurate revolvers, I think you'll enjoy it.
