Default Value on Mod 19 Commemorative

Been offered opportunity to buy a Model 19 Tn Hwy Patrol commemorative. Pic attached. No apparent turn ring and will get to see it later this week. Dont know if presentation case is incl or not. Any guidance on value? Seller is a friend and don't want to insult him but I know commemorative pricing is a bit subjective. Thanks.

Very subjective for sure. I sold a commemorative 19-4 in the presentation case with tools a year ago for $1000.00

If you, can, find,a buyer that relates to the commemorative then you will be ok... BUT usually those guys alrady have theirs..... tough sell, and I would value at original cost about $400

As hoytx10 mentioned, a commemorative's value is in the eye of the beholder (buyer), if they have a connection or interest in the gun for a reason like former service in the agency.

I would respectfully disagree with ken158 about the value, as I think it would be worth at least the current value of a new/unfired model 19 of the same vintage, or about $650 (?). If the original box and contents come with it, how much more you want to pay is up to you.

Thanks for everyone's input. I am personally more into revolvers I can shoot. I dont have any affiliation to the agency represented. Seller also has a Model 65 that may be more to my leaning. Will look them both over before I make a final decision.

To me, a "Marked Gun" is usually worth LESS than a standard version. The ONLY exception is IF you were a TN State Trooper and it really meant something to you. When I see marked guns for sale they are harder to sell and most of the time sell for less than standard versions.

I guess I am the exception to the rule, and like Commemoratives. Maybe not if it commemorates Crest toothpaste, but I haven't seen any of those...

What I am looking at is a like new, pinned and recessed model 19 Combat Magnum, target hammer, presentation grip,4" barrel,RR/WO. with a perfect deep blue gloss finish, made 100% by S&W. Not making any more of these..ever.
I see the value with all the goodies in the $1k range. Nice set of stocks as well.

JMHO, but, to me, commemoratives are marketing gimmicks, and therefore devalue the gun. To each his own, though.

No one likes to be told what is a "collectible"...I get that...which is true for cars,bikes..pretty much everything..but I also don't overlook what is being offered...and a little glitter on an otherwise very desirable model never hurts anything...especially when so many others dislike it..
I enjoy snapping up these "lesser" valued guns. Funny, I'm usually not the only bidder...but sometimes I get very lucky! They shoot just as well as the unmarked ones..and are less expensive. Win win in my book, and nothing like dancing with a well dressed lady..
