Default S&W 32-1

The LGS has a little 32-1 flat latch in 38 S&W. Cute little revolver with a little holster wear but looks like it has not been shot very much at all. Serial number is 102xxx. I am tempted to pick it up to play with reloading for it. Question, is it worth $400? I've look at the auction sites and prices seem to be all over.

Assuming the stocks (grips) are original to the revolver it would have been made between 1961 (first year of the Model 32 dash 1) and 1968 when diamond center stocks were deleted.

I think there's a chance you do not have the correct serial # as the SCSW shows:
1961-1970 712954-826977 for the Model 31

Assuming there is no problem with the function of the revolver, I would guesstimate the condition of the revolver as Very Good and the SCSW 4th edition suggests a value of $450 ($550 in Excellent condition and $275 in Good condition). My finger-in-the-wind gauge suggests $400 is in the realm of a reasonable price.

I would buy it that price without hesitation.

Thanks g8rb8! I will have to go back and relook at it to double check but they show the serial number as 102XXX and that is what I read on the butt. Unless it was 702xxx. It just felt good in the hand but I was not familiar with the model 32 and it value.

Yes, sir, absolutely right.

However, the postwar Terrier and later the Model 32 serial number range was 54474-122678.

If I had seen it in my lgs for $400 I wouldn't have left without it.

Cheers,

Bob

It is a good looking snub for sure and the price is decent also. Just make sure it is mechanically good and the barrel is great shape as well. I wonder if it has been refinished as nice as the finish appears.

gman51, What is the best way to determine if it has been refinished? I do not see any signs that it was polished as the trademark and stamping all appear to be sharp? Anything else that would give it away?
