I recently purchased my first revolver, a Model 66, from a family friend whose relative passed away. I bought it as a range toy, and have already taken it out once. I know very little about revolvers, but from little I know it seems healthy. Good lockup, timing, no hammer push-off, shots grouped well.
No box / paperwork / etc and the original stocks were nowhere to be found.
The previous owner was a retired police officer. I'm guessing the wear is from being holstered, and the the hand-engraved number on the yolk is an ID number. It does have one significant scratch near the cylinder release.
Pictures are prior to shooting (and cleaning). The cylinders cleaned up nicely and I don't see any damage around the forcing cone.
I purchased for $450. My question is about the condition / value. My friends are encouraging me to spend some money on a nice example of the factory stocks, as well as the box / paperwork. Is this guy in good enough shape to warrant that? If it's not, I'd be perfectly happy with some cheaper wood stocks and the free printout of the manual that I downloaded.
