Great find - 60's S&W "Chief Special" Model 36.
Found this S&W Model 36 at a CT gun shop. It's in amazing condition and can't wait to take it to the range. I'm told it's early 60's and the finish looks perfect.

What serial number is stamped on the butt?
If it is actually marked in the yoke cut as MOD 36, it would have to be from no earlier than 1966, based on the cylinder release.

Looks like a sock-drawer gun. Very nice.

This one shipped in September, 1964. Notice the cylinder release.
Also, note the diamond on the stocks. This went away in late 1967 or early 1968. Methinks the OP's gun shipped in 1968 or later. The serial number would help nail that down.
