Was a SW 22LR Revolver with > 6" Barrel?
I thought I saw on Gunbroker someone was selling a SW .22LR with an 8" (or longer) barrel. I searched thru the Standard Catalog but could not find such a model. Was such a revolver made? If so does any have one?
Thanks!

Probably an 8 3/8", which is the standard length for S&W long barreled revolvers. The Standard Catalog of S&W under model 17 says the made them. I don't think I have ever seen one, but they made some long barrels with almost ever K and N frame

I had an 8 3/8" K22 a few years back. Wonderfully accurate, but a bit ungainly in the field, and had trouble finding a holster. Finally decided that was more barrel than I needed, and sadly, sold it. Yes, it was a factory option.

Definitely. My local dealer sold a 8 3/8 inch Model 17-3 on GB a year ago. An interesting gun.

Both the Model 17 and the Model 53 came with 8 3/8" barrels. The Model 53 is in 22 Remington Jet but came with 22LR inserts and as an option a 22LR cylinder.

The model 17 starting in the 1960s as noted above, also the model 617 (stainless, full underlug barrel, 3.5 pounds to cushion the vicious .22 recoil) and the 648 in .22 Magnum with 8 3/8" barrels.

I have the 17, 14, 27, 29, 48, & 53.. in 8-3/8". They're accurate if you can keep the muzzle up where it belongs...

8 3/8" K22 M17-3
Here's a nice one. Believe it or not, I traded a Python for this gun.
Well, yeah, the Python was a beater and headed to Colt for a rework and I already have two Pythons. It is minty and presumably, unfired. These are scarce especially with the 3 T's. Big Larry

Model 17 .22 LRs with 8 3/3" barrels are common. They were in S&W's catalog continuously for 25 to 30 years. The barrel was designed to combine the maximum sight radius allowed in NRA Conventional Pistol (Bullseye) matches with ideal balance for one handed shooting. No other iron sighted revolver is as good for that use.
Unfortunatly, ignorant new comers in S&W's marketing department made the 8 3/8" .22 barrels worthless for their intended use by changing them to a heavy full lug design that is difficult to fire one handed. That killed sales of 8 3/8" K frame .22s.
While there are not a lot of comfortable belt holsters for them they're not bad in vertical shoulder holsters.
