J frame?...3rd Gen?...J frame?...3rd Gen?
I am coveting a J frame 36 snub. Thought I found one local but seller backed out. Then a little whisper started in the back of my brain that said, "You don't have a Smith 3rd gen semi-auto either." I feel like a failure. No J frame. No 3rd gen.
I recently pulled off some fortunate horse trading in selling a firearm that provided some gun budget. What happens? An unmint but solid 66-2 snub appears. Obviously, I am alphabetically challenged, so I buy the K frame...and my J frame/3rd gen budget takes a hit. So much for a J frame or 3rd gen. But, lo and behold, a 3rd gen shows up in the classifieds, and we work a deal for the exact amount left in my gun budget. Sweet! Now a 3rd gen is heading my way too.
So a K frame snub and a 3rd gen 9mm! And all I can think is..."Now if I only had a J frame."
I blame you guys for this.
3rd gen isn't here yet. Here is the 66-2. Smith & Wesson...the sickness that keeps me sane...somewhat.

If you've only got one gun .....of those three, IMO; the 66 is the first to get!!!!
followed by a 3rd Generation, 6906 hi-cap 9mm...... or a 3913 for everyday concealed carry
last, but not least, a 5 shot J-frame ...... make mine the 3" 60-10 .357 micro-686.

6904. I have CZ decockers so I should be familiar with the controls on the Smith.

3rd Gens rank way up there as my favorite pistols, even though I am mostly a revolver guy. And if you are used to CZ decockers I don't think you will have any issues with S&W decockers.

This may be sacrilegious, but since this is a Revolver Forum, I say get the J-Frame. Never did think much of the old S&W autos 1-3 gen. Can you say boat anchor? Just kidding, but them I'm a revolver man and had my department not forced me, kicking and screaming, to carry an auto I would have carried a revolver until retirement.

Hanging around this rough group of addicted Smith fanatics pretty soon you'll have multiples of each. But yea, Model 66 > 60 but 5900 is in a class of its own.

I'm not going to be of much help here, as I really like both j-frames and 3rd gens. They both have their merits.
The Mod.49 (& 649) is high on my list of j's (I also really want a 36!):

Then there is the 9mm single stack 3rd gen that also warms my heart......
