Default Help me ID this revolver

A guy on a local gun classified has what looks to me like a 5-shot
J frame. He is calling it a model 13 from the fifties. I emailed him and said that there was no way that was a K frame 13. Sorry the pics are bad, but I had to screenshot them from the site.

Aren't model 13's K frames? Your picture is too small to see much but that looks like a 5 round cylinder to me too. I don't have one but wouldn't the model be stamped on the crane? Others will chime in that know far more than I on this one. I often run into guns that are wildly misidentified by the seller for some reason.

Probably pre model marking..and probably a pre-36.

It's a Chiefs Special. It has the larger trigger guard, no upper sideplate screw and the photos are too small to tell if it has a pinned barrel or its condition. If you can tell us if it is model stamped, has the barrel pin or the serial number that would help; right now it can be narrowed down to only a 40 year time frame .

Good grief! I've got one in the safe and I should have checked.

The pics from the link might be a little better: smith and wesson model 13 50's good used shape : Revolvers
It looks pinned, but other than that, I don't know any details. Response through FGT has always been hit or miss and he didn't post an email or phone number. His response to my original inquiry was: "Ok thanks I'll check on that
Ot dose have a 13 stamen on it
Thanks"

It's a pinned Chiefs Special. Either got dropped on the hammer or, somebody ground off part of the spur.

Looks like its in "ok" shape. If be interested at about $300. But, I'm not looking for one.

The larger photos do show the barrel pin. "Assuming" the parts are all original, especially the thumb piece (aka cylinder latch), it is probably no older than the mid-1960s and before about 1981. As noted above, the hammer spur has been ground (or broken) off.

Agree with the $300 estimate. If you see it in person and are still interested, have a look at the internals, especially pitted bore/chambers and frame rust under the rubber stocks. Good negotiating points too .

One little tip about photos off the web:
You don't have to do screen shots.
Instead, hover your cursor over the picture you want and right click.
You will get a popup menu.
Left click on "Properties" at the bottom of the menu.
You will see the properties window of the picture.
Locate the "Address (URL)" property and highlight it.
Right click on the highlighted string.
You get another popup menu.
Left click on "Copy".
Then left click on "Cancel" to get rid of the Properties menu.
It's a lot easier than it sounds. You now have the URL of the picture. So you can add it to your Forum post as you would any other picture. See below for the shot that shows the pinned barrel and 5 chamber cylinder. For reference, the address/URL of this one is https://floridaguntrader.com/u_images/3126561.jpg
