Default Model 10 for the boondocks

I put this ensemble together for tramping around out in the
boondocks. Simple is good.
S&W Model 10 - 6 with 4" bull barrel.
Field holster and cartridge belt by Lawrence.
Knife by Buck.

Phil, I have said this before..If you get into anything "that" won't solve, you are the victim of some awful planning!

I don't plan to go where the big brown bears are, and
I think I can handle everything else.

Excellent!

The only thing I would change, especially for a boondocks gun is moving up to a warmish 158 gr loading, such as a lead SWC or FN.

I have some Buffalo Bore Heavy 38 Spl.+P
158-gr. L.S.W.C.-G.C. (1000 fps/M.E. 351 ftt. lbs.)
I agree. They will be better for the boonies.
I'll use those Hornady's for the 2 legged critters.

Looks great - my first centerfire holster, ever, for my 6-inch M28 was a Hunter holster that (still) looks very much like yours. Kinda scary to think that they'll be 50 years old in a coupla years ...

Very neat. I have a very similar setup, only with a 5" tapered M10 and Underwood .38-44 158 gr. HC LSWC ammo.

Translation: Bush=boondocks=toolies=woods=wilderness...

Very good functional setup. I carry a fixed blade USAF survival knife on my belt with my Model 15, but a good folder is probably more practical. I carry my spare ammo on Bianchi speed strips in my pocket, but one of those speed strip wallets would be nice.

I'm a lot more likely to have trouble with some of these meth-making hillbillies around here than a black bear. I've been carrying Remington 125 grain +Ps, but a heavier bullet might be a good idea.

nice gun

nice knife

I disapprove of carrying any ammo in belt-loops. Expect to at least have dirty and corroded ammo. Otherwise, expect to lose rounds from some loops on a constant basis.

Get a couple speed-loaders, or speed-strips, and figure a way to carry them securely for your application. Anything leather will absorb moisture, and invites neglect.

I've kept a Model 10 around since 1984.
Not my EDC, but probably the last gun that I will part with.

I've got an old Buck 110 that I've had since the 70's.

I agree with your comment about what happens to ammo.
I don't leave mine in the cartridge belt. When I get back home
I take it out and clean it before putting it back in the box.
I left some in the cartridge belt a long time ago and learned
my lesson. I had a green gooey mess.

The expression was introduced to English by U.S. military personnel fighting in the Philippine–American War (1899-1902). It derives from the Tagalog word "bundok", which means "mountain".
In America, it came to mean any remote or wilderness area.
