Star Emblem on Factory Presentation Grips
A friend with better vision than myself was eyeballing my factory refinished nickel 15-3 and pointed out the emblem logos as being non standard. I could find no info searching here or the rest of the internet nor in my 3rd Volume of the big book. This triggers my OCD. Any help or ideas on what these are would be much appreciated.Pics taken with cell phone through a magnifying glass.

What they came off of.
This is my birth year 15-3 that was R-N'd at the factory in 11-74. The "star" stocks were on this when I bought it.
Figuring out the oddities is one of the enjoyable parts of our addiction.

I've seen stocks with those medallions before. If I remember correctly, those presentation stocks were put on some kind of Texas law enforcement commemorative guns.
Edit: found it, see this post: http://smith-wessonforum.com/136856830-post6.html

Those grips were manufactured for the Texas Ranger Sesquicentennial Model 19 Commemorative revolver that was produced in 1973
Here is my Deluxe Texas Ranger Sesquicentennial Model 19 Commemorative wearing the same grips with lighter wood

Remember, Texas is the Lone Star state. The gun was a TX Ranger commemorative.

Roadvirus,
Nice stocks/grips but due to the limited production of those it is highly unlikely they left the factory on your revolver. Which leaves me to ponder the fate of the TX Ranger commemorative Model 19 they were originally affixed to. Hummmmmm

It probably has a set of Goodyears on it and has lived the life of a shooter.

Texas Rangers Grips
Also purchased a 586 on Gunbrokers with a set of Texas Rangers "Star" grips. Put some Target Grips on the 586 and have the Rangers grips and still trying to decide what to put them on. Someone selling set on Ebay.
Smith & Wesson/S&W K/L Frame Texas Ranger Presentation grips
$275.00
Buy It Now
No takers for past 3 weeks.
Can't figure how someone separated from commemorative gun. Maybe Smith had an over-run?

Maybe since it went back to S&W in Nov of 74 they used what was on hand if there was an over run. Post nickel job this piece was not shot much if at all and these grips are flawless.

One thing you quickly learn about S &W is to never say "never" but that even the strangest things can be possible. Not likely the average Joe sending a Model 15-3 back to Smith even in '74 would have been rewarded with it being returned sporting a pair of stocks from a commemorative release. But an employee or a person of some influence could have made it happen. As to SFIDEC's 586 which was first produced in 1980 that is somewhat more thought provoking. hardcase60

My Texas Ranger's grips...
My Model 19 Texas Ranger had its grips changed out long before I bought it and who knows what happened to them. I'm hoping to buy a set one of these days to put mine back to original.
