Default Blue box 38 special K frame 2" nickel $$$

Hi all
A friend has for sale a K frame 38 special 2"" barrel, original nickel plated with blue box.
Looks like new I guess 98%
He wants 500 bucks and it seems like a decent price but I don't know what it's worth. Give or take 50 or 75 bucks.
Can I get your opinion.
It looks so kool
Thanks
Mike

Model ? If a 15 that would be a steal if a model 10 still a fair price. In some eras the nickels shipped in a silver colored box depending on era box may not be or may be correct

Sounds reasonable, but some photos would help. Maybe he could even text them to you, if you're not close, and post for us to see.

Best Regards, Les

I was under the impression the factory nickel revolvers were shipped in silver colored boxes vs. blue boxes.

I am not an expert and will wait and see just how wrong I am.

Pictured below is a factory nickel Model 10-5 I acquired last August for $222.00 plus sales tax. It did not come with a box and is far from a perfect finish condition.

There is a large stamped "N" on the flat under the barrel when you open the yoke. It also has a stamped "N" on the frame under the stocks/grips.

hardknocks,

If there is even a $50.00 leeway, having the disease, I'd throw $450.00 at it without even blinking. On a good day, I might not even open the box before he had the money. Back to serious side of things, we all like pics so please do try and share some. If some additional info. is available there are lots of knowledgeable folks on this forum that are very helpful. hardcase60

Added:

Depending on the -? if there is one, it may very well have come in a blue box. Someone with more expertise can reminds us when the box color changed on nickel guns.

Yes, for $450.00 on a 2", Nickel, Model 10 I probably wouldn't even open the box. LOL

Don’t worry about getting “more” info. Get the gun, especially if you can get it for $450. Then you will have all the info you need.

Prices keep going up as we all know! That being said, FWIW I would pay $500 based on your description. $450 (DUH) would be better though. Bob

I have a 64 2" with round butt. (I believe all 2" came with round butt). I bought mine new in 1976.
Buy it!!! Great revolver. Nice conceal carry piece with a "pancake" style holster.
Sold new in 1976 for $145.

I don't recall seeing the model 64 in a 2" barrel so I'd guess it's not too common.

A blue box is appropriate for stainless steel revolvers.

What dash is it?
Does it have a pinned barrel? If It's a 64 no-dash or dash-1 or dash-2 it should have a pinned barrel.
Pinned barrel deleted at 64-3.
At 64-5 these were shipped in plastic cases and by 64-6 MIM parts were introduced.

Could this by a Model 64 NY-1 (i.e. a New York City Police Model)? It could be if it's DOA (double action only) and the serial number is on the frame below the cylinder window.

In the condition described (98%) and if it has a pinned barrel and an original looking, numbers-matching box then it sounds like a very good deal.

Generally true. However, be aware that some early Model 64 no dash 4 inch revolvers shipped in the seldom seen silver boxes. (No, not the grey boxes usually seen with nickel guns but silver with a blue border.)

There were many more 4" model 64s (and 2" 64-2s) than 2" model 64s, but they are out there. Seems to be a fair price.
