Default 29-2 trigger does not fully return

I recently acquired a new to me 29-2 and have noticed that occasionally the trigger does not always fully return. When this happens I have to give the trigger a little push forward before the action will cycle again. The internals are clean and well lubed.
What can cause this?

Have you had the internals out for cleaning? A possibility that something is not installed correctly.

I have had the side plate off but did not remove any parts, I just checked to see if it was clean inside, it was (and dry). I gave it a few drops oh Hoppes on the bearing surfaces and reassembled. It does not happen all the time but does happen enough to make me concerned.

Did you notice it before removing the side plate?

I did not but then again I did not fiddle with it much before giving it a good cleaning.

Somebody may have installed a lighter rebound spring or cut too many coils off the original spring. In order for the lighter springs to work well some of the internal parts need polished. If you replace the rebound spring with a stock or even a 14# aftermarket spring all should be well.

Buy a stock rebound spring and leaf spring and replace the existing springs.
I agree with series guy, A previous owner changed or altered the springs in an attempt to reduce trigger pull. The new stock springs should solve your problem.

It also could be that one ratchet tooth is long - is it more difficult to cock in SA on one chamber? The long ratchet tooth will "grab" onto the hand on the downstroke ... ... which in turn keeps the trigger from springing forward ...

The strain screw is tight and cocking in single action is the same all the way around. The action is pretty smooth and "light" so it may be that the springs were altered. I will replace them with stock springs and see what that does.

I would first check to see if the rebound spring is factory. If not, restore to factory.

I just ordered a Wolff Shooters Pak with a factory weight mainspring and assortment (13, 14 and 15 lb) trigger return springs. I plan on installing the 14 lb and going from there. Since I was already paying the shipping I also included a new cylinder stop spring so they will all be new. Hopefully this will cure the issue.

When you have the rebound spring out, check to see if it looks like it has been cut. This is not a good way to lighten a short stiff spring. This changes more than just the spring weight. Cut springs can "go limp" right at the end of the stroke, where they need that extra little oomph.

Learned this the hard way.

The most likely cause is a weak or shortened rebound spring. When the trigger won't recover gently pull back on the hammer spur, if the trigger snaps forward then the spring is the problem.

The 13lb trigger rebound spring is too light for an N frame gun. Sometimes they can be a booger to get back in, be patient.

I have installed the Wolff springs (factory weight main and 14lb rebound) but when doing so found that the previous owner had ground down the strain screw. I have ordered a stock replacement, it should be here Friday. Hopefully this will take care of my issues.
