I have pretty much been priced out of buying guns a while ago. I use a spreadsheet to keep up with my guns. One of the columns is for what the gun is worth. I need to update this!

I am seeing where these are SELLING for over 3 grand! I just looked at one 4 years newer than mine for $3600. And, that is not for a "S" serial number but for "N's"! I am not complaining since I am not a buyer, but I do have one.

Link to an auction for an N serial number 27 that sold for that much, please? Because I am looking to buy a 6" 27-2 and have been looking at them for the last month and haven't seen even 3 1/2" barrel 27's sell for that much. I did see a 3 1/2" barrel Pre 27 sell for over 2K recently though.

I'd like to see that as well, I'll sell every 3.5 27 I have for 3k+

The one I saw sell was a local auction. It sold for $3025. I will PM each of you the one for sale at $3600.

Thanks for sending me to the link to that one for sale. But that is him asking for that much but I bet it won't be a fast mover. I think that person is dreaming about that selling for $3600 because it's not a Python but a S&W. A person or company can ask what they want, but actually selling is another thing. But hey, if they can sell at that price then I might be willing to move a couple myself.

I thought you had run across an actual sale of one at that price, not one for sale at that price. And I'm not doubting that you saw one sell for $3k locally but that isn't a normal selling price either.

Here goes another ride on the roller coaster of prices. They been going up again.

I have seen a few of them going for just under 3k when I was looking for one a little over a year ago. I finally found one in as new condition and it wasn't 3k but it was really high. I changed out the grips and put a nice set of Culina's on it.

That is crazy pricing. I've seen quite a few going in the high teens, and a few into the twenty's. But its not just the 27's. the 19's (1-4) and 66/66-1 are regularly selling in the $1000.+ range.

I'd say if you have one hold onto it. If you don't get it now. I truly think prices will really surprise some people in another couple years.

"They" say there's no inflation. I call BS on that. Was at a Farm & Fleet the other day and while waiting in checkout lane saw a Bun Maple candy bar and thought, I haven't had one of those it ages. Picked it up and I swear it was the size of an old silver dollar. Still $0.89 but 1/3 the size.

It's just not the candy bar everything is downsizing for same $$. It's all going to catch up someday.

My feeling is that people who say guns,cars,gold and silver are not a good investment will be eating those words someday.

A new one from Smith should be around one grand. For the most part I have been buying my Smiths new. I have two and I am ecstatic with them.

Yes they have the hole, but it in no way interferes with their function. Certainly not worth IMO paying two grand more. They are though on stock watch with Gallery of Guns, so they must be getting snatched up fast.

If you don't mind a new one with the hole and MIM, you can get them for much less than a grand on GB. I've been seeing them for around $800-900 or so and advertised as NIB.

For my 27's though, I much rather the older ones that have the recessed cylinder. Not because the cylinder is stronger or anything of that nature but rather because of looks. I find the 27 with a non-recessed cylinder doesn't look as good as the older models that use a recessed cylinder. I do have a newer 27-5, but it actually does have a recessed cylinder on it (but not a pinned barrel). I also am partial to nickel plated guns and S&W doesn't manufacture those any more.

I think that might be their Black and White Ebony, but I could be wrong.

Yea, it saddens me that they no longer offer nickel, but I understand where you are coming from. My problem is I shoot every gun I get my hands on. A NIB vintage gun loses a lot of money after I shoot it. I am not a collector, but I like shooting so my most important factor is function.

As far as the recessed cylinder, I like the ones that are not. Just comes from me shooting SASS in the past. I owned a recessed nickel 19 about 35 years ago, should have never traded it.

The grand price I used was from S&W. Usually they are a little less expensive when ordered, depending on the dealer. I don't use gunbroker, just too many chances to get burned. I either buy from an individual, a respected online dealer, or my local gun store. The two I use always come in lower priced than any price I have seen on GB. But if GB works for others kewl, I am just not very trusting of people I don't know.

I put a 27 on stock watch on GOG so I will probably get a price when one comes available. Then go to Gun Locker and he will come in under their price. Kendale Pawn also has consistently come in under the advertised price.

Don't start believing the hype guys. Once herd mentality shifts that way, and it becomes all about the money potential, your S&W revolver market will slip into a cesspool like Colt revolvers did 3yrs ago. This seller was a major part of it.

Him, and a few other dealers get stupid money for guns just because of "perceived" reputation. What you don't know is they are basically scammers operating in plain sight with everyone blind to it because of this perceived reputation. Buyers trust them 100% based on name alone, which they read online where everything is true right? I have done my homework on many people, and these guys are no Jack the Dog, who actually knows what he's selling. Compared to him they are posers.

Not saying this S&W is, but this guy is constantly selling guns that aren't what they claim to be. He has also been caught on numerous occasions doing some very less than ethical practices, but no one cares in the Colt community because all their collections just go up in value because of it. You all better start becoming experts at spotting refinishes, STS refreshes, and signs of mechanical issues/abuse now, because that is all the current Python market is full of, all priced at $2K or higher. Only the very worn ones can you find under that.

This person also started "dealing" in revolvers around 2010 and was just as uneducated as everyone else, buying fake package Pythons and others. Then he would learn they were fake, but still turn around and auction them off as genuine making double or more what he paid. Then realized "I'm on to something here", and that began the "snake craze". There is proof in forum archives, and I have gathered and witnessed so much more proof that it's actually sad they still continue to enjoy the reputations they have.

High prices may sound enticing at first guys, but you all will regret it if they end up like Colts. Trust me. Worn out shooter grade S&Ws will be bringing $1500 and up once everyone starts believing ALL S&Ws are valuable like the truly NIB ones are.

Seen some like new 3.5 inchers bring mid teens. Definitely not anywhere close to being worth 3k let along 2500. Very nice guns but they made a ton of 3.5 inch 27-2s.

I had bookmarked this gun and when I went back to it yesterday it did not show up. It was NIB and very nice. The seller is a very well known national seller. I have dealt with him in the past. He does not lower his prices much, if at all. I emailed him and asked about the gun. He emailed me back and said it was sold. It was on his website 2 weeks ago.

I actually bought my NIB 27-2 Nickel 3 1/2 inch from him 4 years ago. I am glad I have mine and am not looking for one now!
