Default New 629

I purchased a new 629 44 mag recently. Fired less than thirty rounds and the cylinder locked up.
I always purchase new firearms to prevent issues like this. I have a Winchester 30-30, Colt AR and 1911.45, Henry 17 HMR, Springfield 45 cal tactical, Ruger .357 revolver and a Remington 12 gauge police model. All purchased new and never a problem. I buy one S&W and I have to send to back for warranty repair.
I am no stranger to firearms. I spent 30 years in the Army as an infantry officer. I probably could have fixed the issue
( maybe) myself but I got so pissed off after spending all that money and the revolver goes down on less than 30 rounds.
I have no experience with S&W so would like to know if this is pretty standard SOP for their quality control? I was under the assumption they were an icon in the firearms industry and had stellar firearms. Now I have doubts. Anyone else have problems with new S&W firearms?

Default Smith and Wesson 629

Their warranty service has been good. Lately I feel they are falling down on the job..
Send it back and keep your fingers crossed...

Sadly,I do not believe the modern (last 15 years) S&W products get the same scrutiny as the older models before they are shipped out. Luckily, they do offer a warranty repair service. My newest revolver has been a 642 and I took the side plate off as the trigger was grainy.Sure enough, there was a considerable amount of manufacturing "dirt" in the action. Not enough to make it malfunction, but more than I care to see. All it needed was a simple cleaning and relube and it was smooth. Unfortunately, the removal of human hands from the final stages of manufacture has led to many problems with products, right out of the box. Best of luck resolving your issue.
