Default P&R Model 629

I have a P&R Model 629 no dash with an 8-3/8" barrel. The Blue Book shows that there were only 100 made and gives a serial # range but mine falls way out of the range listed. Mine is N851XXX. Any ideas? When I bought it it had factory target stocks but I HAD to have Pachs so took them off. What would the correct stocks be?
Thanks!

The only way to be sure if it is factory original is a letter of authenticity:

Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation - Letter Process - Insuring that the rich history of Smith & Wesson will continue for generations to come

Of course, if you have the original box from when you bought it new there would be little doubt as well. The original stocks would have been wood N frame Targets, with the smaller ("football") cutout on the upper left panel.

I have different information on the 629 no dash, and I have, and have had several of them-the 8 3/8 is supposed to be in the middle as far as number made, with the 4 inch being the least, and the 6 inch the most common, but they were made for, I believe, 11 months, and while they were relatively few in number in comparison to others-they made a lot more than 100 if I remember correctly.

The 4" version was made for less than a year, and I have been told that it is the rarest of the three versions offered.

I had one, but did sell it last year to a fellow forum member.

Football targets would be correct for your 629.

I saw a guy at the Tulsa show that had all three. I've got the 4" version that took years to find. It's one of my favorites and will likely stay with me as long as I'm on this side of the dirt.
