Appears to be around late 1972 - early 1973. Just bought a 10-5 made in 1969. Slim (pencil) barrel, 4 inch. Probably same as yours. They were the standard police / security guns of the time. They sold new for around a hundred dollars or less in the early 1970's.

Most likely Apr/May time frame 1972. Also, you didn't mention, blue or nickel? A couple of pics would be nice. You may or may not know it, but around here we like pics!

Made in 1972, as stated by others. There is no way to know the month it shipped without obtaining a letter from the SWHF. Anyone who says otherwise (except Roy or Don) is just guessing!

It actually has three frame screws, all on the right side. One is hiding under the top of the right stock panel.
The one holding the cylinder release in place does not count.

I would assume it's nickel since it's not blue. Is the whole frame nickel, or is it just nickel-plated? Pictures are attached.

I received this gun from my dad a few years back and haven't touched it since. I recently made a friend interested in guns, and I'm planning on taking it to a range soon. Going to clean it up first since it's been in a shoe box for a few years, and who knows before that.

It seems to be in pretty good shape other than the damage to the grip as you can see in the pictures.

Also, not planning on selling the gun, but any idea what this gun would be worth now?

Thanks again!

The frame, cylinder and barrel are made of carbon steel. Then a nickel plate finish is applied.

Yeah . . . do you have any idea what happened to the right stock panel? It looks like someone fired a shotgun at it!

If it was your Dad's it is priceless. Can't wait for the range report. Bet it is a good shooter.

Talking

No clue what happened to the grip, but it kind of looks like a rodent got to it.

And it might be a good shooter, but that would require me to be good shot first

All I can say without your sending for a factory letter is, it shipped on my 20th birthday.

Welcome to the FORUM! They are right, it should be a good shooter! The finish could be polished with Flitz, or Simichrome. Wax up the grips and you are good to go! (NOT) If you wish, you could find a decent set on ebay reasonable. It is waiting for a range date! Bob

Thank you all for the information and the suggestions. If I wanted to look into getting new grips for the gun, are there are parameters beyond the frame that I need? From what I have read so far, it looks like the 10-5's are K-frame revolvers, but could someone please confirm this?

Thank you again.

Yes and yes .

Besides the frame size, you also need to pay attention to the difference between round butt and square butt. See picture.

But it is indeed a K-frame, and any original or aftermarket grip for that size should fit.

ThePrichanator,

E-bay or the classifieds on this site are good places to find another set of grips/stocks. Period correct ones may take some looking. Those from your revolver appear to be slightly rounded at the bottom as opposed to a more squared off look. Any square butt K frame grips/stocks will fit. If you have larger hands a set of Target's might feel better as opposed to the "checkered magna's" currently on the gun. hardcase60
