Advice on buying a 25-2
I have a line on a very nice 25-2 6" in the presentation case. It is in top shelf cond according to the seller with no visible flaws. Has a light turn line and a broken hinge on the box. Comes with the tools, paperwork? All for $650 shipped. Should I grab it? Thanks

If it is indeed as you describe, it is a terrific deal. $2-300 below the market value. Do you know the seller? I'd proceed with a certain degree of caution.

I don't know the seller personally but he is a member on another board and has a perfect record. I'm already a 45 shooter so I have ammo already.

Excellent price. Be prepared if your current ammo doesn't group well out of the 25-2. Many previous posts about this issue. One fine gun though.

Excellent price.... get off the computer and go now and buy it....! Fabulous gun. Fun, great handling, and great shooting 45. Wonder why it is being sold so inexpensively.... but, maybe, just way it is....

Go for it. I bought a really nice one for about twice that much in excellent condition. Thought I would shoot it a few times then put it away. Ended up loving to shoot it so I bought another one that was even better so the first one will be my shooter. I've had no accuracy problem, just use the same ammo I load for my 45 autos. I'll check out the posts about accuracy just to see what they are saying.

An excellent price as noted above. Many .45 (ACP and Colt) revolvers in the late '70s to early 80s had oversized cylinder throats, resulting in poor accuracy. A question to the seller as to how well it shoots couldn't hurt.

As stated above....if the price is too good
Some 25-2 had cylinder throats as large as .459" which resulted in very poor accuracy.
Do a full revolver checklist before handing over your money.

Might want to see if the seller has pin gauges and/or has gauged the throats and can tell you what they measure.

When I go to gun shows I carry a little zip lock bag in my pocket with .454",.455" and .456" bullets plus .458" 45-70 just in case I spot a nice .45 wheel gun.

I saw that one, Dave. Great price if as described, and I have no reason to think it isn't. I would have beat you to the draw if I didn't already have a couple of them.

At that price if it doesn't group well you could scare up a 29-2 cylinder and convert it to .45 Colt.

My old 25-2 (1961 ship date) is a tack driver. I purchased it, used, with the factory muzzle brake attached to it over 20 years ago. I use my "Giles" 1911, 45 ACP target ammo which is a 200 grain SWC cast bullet (lubed) with 3.7 grains of Bulleye. They all fly straight and true. Other Giles shooters use the same bullet, varying from 3.6 to 4.0 Bullseye. They all shoot just as well in the 25-2. Get a nice comfy set of rubber Hogue mono grips to target with.
Oh, have you tried to find a N frame S&W Muzzle Brake lately ? They are nearly worth their weight in gold in more than one way.

Don't have a way to measure my cylinder throats but my gun is #N459530 with a 6.5" barrel. Should it be OK?

Yes and no. S&W .45 Colt and .45 ACP barrels are not quite the same, among other things. What you might do is set the old cylinder aside and obtain and fit a modern . 45 ACP cylinder. The new cylinders won't look exactly right because of the long bolt notches but the gun should be a lot more accurate. The 25-2s with these crazy exit bores that I have owned and fired have always seemed to leave a bit to be desired, and frequently a LOT.
