Default New to me--> Model 36 Chief Special

Unsure of the year.
I had to have one!

This is a blued finish although the seller's photos don't make it appear that way. It appears the grips have been re-varnished.
I noticed it has the smaller S&W stamp, others I've seen more recently have a larger one.

Any clue? I'm guessing a 70's or 80's revolver?

It is one of the "floating J" (six total SN characters, letter moves within) guns from 1971-'72. Hope this is helpful.

My M-36 from 1982 has the small S&W in the left side.

Interesting, the only other S&W I have that has the small logo on the left is a M-10-7 4" Nickel.

The stamp is a mystery to me. I've seen pictures of different models with the same dash number with the logo stamped on different sides. I've also noticed that on some, especially Model 19's I've seen it on the right side and it isn't centered. I can't stand the look of it when it's like that. Other ones are centered so I don't know why that is. Sometimes they are under the latch and other times on the other side. My Model 15 snub is on the right side and it's centered. I believe the 19 is the only one that I've seen it off center. When the day comes that I buy one, if it's off center I couldn't buy it. It would drive me crazy.

Floating Js are not that old. I use to sell them new. When someone says they are old, it makes me feel old. Guys, I could get a complex.

I, too, am a fan of the Model 36.

Have 2 - RB from 1968 and SB from 1983

Older sibling has the smaller logo. Youngster has larger one. (Need to take better photos of this one)
