Very nice collection you have there, jengelguns. You have a nice, varied collection of revolvers. I need to do something like this pic of yours when I get back in from work and get my latest acquisition from my FFL guy.

Thanks. I have been into guns ever since I was about 5 years old. I used to memorize all the Guns and Ammo from the early 80's. I really liked the writings of the greats (Bill Jordan, Elmer Keith, Bob Milek and Jeff Cooper). The .41 mag is one of my favorites and I have been loading it for many years. I started reloading somewhere around 1988 or so. I was a Sheriff's Deputy with many duties in a remote Kansas county and now, I manage a gun shop in Atwood Kansas. I'm not a noobie to guns by any means but there is still a lot to learn.

Welcome to the Forum.

You need get some original grips for your M58. It should be wearing diamond modified Magnas, also known as plainclothes Magnas, with the slightly rounded sides at the butt.

I think we "cut our teeth" in the same way. I had very little formal education growing up and Keith & Cooper were my adopted teachers/processors. I often think of how good we had it back then, when they were in the working & writing prime of their lives. Between the two, there was little you couldn't learn about handguns, ammunition, mindset or self defense, if you took the time to learn. I got to know Jeff Cooper a little over the years through Gunsite and his lectures & personal appearances. He was a fine & helpful man indeed - the consument fountain of knowledge. I don't think there has been anyone in recent decades that are their equal.
Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your collection. Stick around, the S&W knowledge here "does not" exist anywhere else. I think you'll be amazed, I was.

I also need to get the correct front sight. It has a pinned red insert ramp on it. I have been looking for a 58 for at least 25 years. Finally found this one at a local gun show and was able to trade for it. I have about $200 or so in it.

I'm not really of fan of the long barreled guns. I like the 5" and shorter ones for the most part. Even though I have the 8 3/8" model 29 (I couldn't pass on the price), the only other long barrel gun I would like to have is a 6.5" model 57. I'm trying to sell the 29 locally to help fund the 57 search.
