Altamont Imitation Stags
I recently purchased a pair of Imitation Stag grips from Altamont for my square butt K Frame revolvers.
I decided to post some pictures of these grips installed on my 2" Model 15-2. Included in the photos is a vintage Schrade Uncle Henry with their version of imitation stag.
I know that many here deride imitation stag, but I don't mind them for a cheaper option that you don't have to worry about if you want to pack them somewhere besides the BBQ circuit.
Just FYI I also picked up Altamont's bonded Ivory grips as well and I'm happy with them too.

Open the selection of K Frame magna grips under Ivory and it will give you a stag option as I recall. Not every size or style has a stag option, however, that I could see.
You may also be able to contact customer service to see if you can special order what you need. The customer service department has been exemplary every time I've dealt with them.

That nice little Model 15-2 deserves a vintage pair of Sambar Stag grips but the cost prohibits me from putting them on a shooter and running the risk of damaging them at the range or in the woods. The Altamonts allow me to dress up my revolver without breaking the bank.

Stag doesn't really do it for me. Ivory however, handsome indeed. I've always been attracted to old style scrimshaw work. Pistol grips and knife scales are a good application for it.

I myself would like to have a nice 2" 15, such as yours. Could not find the right 1. Got a little close, and picked up a 10-5 r.b. 2" a year ago. March gun show, I picked up a 66-2, 2.5". They both perform well for me. Bob

I have some Grashorn stags and they are really beautiful. However if you like a nice looking field or carry gun, these make sense to me.

If you would want to "age" them, find a few black walnuts and rub in a bit of oil from them. It does a great job on bone and horn. Don't know about synthetic, though. Might be worth a try?

Hi Fellows,
Found some info. on the net using Google search.
For aging plastic grips let them sit in a strong cup of tea for a while. I did that with a repro set from Vintage Grip Co. they were a white color - ivory grips for a 1927 Argentine 1911.
After the tea bath, they have a nice yellowish aged ivory color.
NOTE:Please do a google search for yourself, you might find a better answer now, 7 years later.
Good Luck,
Broom 96
