Default New Toy 25-2. model of 1955

Hi

Happy as a clam. Just bought a super nice complete 25-2 in 45 ACP. N450000 serial made in 1977. The Blue is so deep i could stare at this all day. Throats are very nice all 452 ish. I just tried it and it is the most accurate smith I have in my collection now. Or I just shoot it best. Love the moonclips, very convenient to quick load. Reloading for this will be fun. Will try to dial in the best load for it. Thank you for this forum, my main source of learning.

I have a 25-2 from about that era that strongly favors the H&G #130 wadcutter. In fact it is about the only bullet it shoots well. Unfortunately, the exit bores of my gun are 0.455-ish.

Enjoy your new revolver and let us know how the handloading goes.

Default Bullets

Thank you for the nice comments. This looks and feels unfired. Well now it's not anyway. So far I only tried gov overrun Winchester brown box. A little hot. It shoots really well with it. Next to try are 230 x treeme plated and sierras. Both are round nose 230 grains. Maybe use my standard 1911 load. 4.5 Gr of bullseye and see what happens.

There were 2 of these guns to pick from. The other was a 45 long colt. Same condition w 8 3/4 barel. The throats were measurably larger than on mine i get the sense from reading that the 45lc may have the larger throats vs the 45 acp. In any event I made the right pick based on how it shoots. I had to swallow the sizable price premium over the long colt but already forgotten it. Today the guns gets her first extended session.

oysterer, enjoy that wonderful revolver. I'm glad that you have it not me. It's just to nice for my modest collection.

I hope you will shoot it from time to time.

Thank you. You would deserve it more but be it as it may. I have a highway patrol that I bought surface rusted but not pitted. I spend some time restoring w wool, flitzz, kroil and elbow grease. That is my weekly shooter and reloading experimenter. I love it but that new toy is certainly another animal. And yes, all will be shot a lot.

Beautiful gun in my book! I can only get close to my "really wants". I have a 625 JM,(ACP) and a 25-15 in 45Colt. They are KEEPERS though! Enjoy your 25! I like 45 revolvers. Bob

OP;

You will fall in love with that 25-2 almost instantly (if you haven't already). I was concerned about throats on my 25-2 after reading the forum posts, and I had not the opportunity to precision measure before purchase. Now that it is mine, all throats in the .452 to .4525 arena.

A month or so ago my 25-2 went up against my daughter (North Carolina LEO) and her agency issue Glock 21 at 7 yards, indoor range. FBI silhouette targets. She out gunned me (her 13 all nice tight group in X). My 12 probably a 6 inch group and high and left, but that's me. We shot 230 grain Blazer Brass FMJ.

I have seen it posted before but do not take that 25 out with only a couple moon clips. I bought a BMT Equipped mooner-de-mooner tool and wow...6 rounds in the tray, one simple turn of the handle, maybe 3 or 4 seconds and a full moon clip. My moon clips are all .041" and headspace perfect.

Unlike yours which is gorgeous, mine was definitely fired a lot before me, witness the bluing loss around the loading side from maybe fingers or whatever without a good wipe down, but still a treasure to me.

Premium price for a Smith & Wesson that you want???? There is no such thing. The seller asked a sum, you paid a sum, agreement by both parties....classic definition of fair market value.

Enjoy that beauty...that is what it was manufactured for.

I got a bag of ranch clips plus that pipe like demoon tool. I will try loading them on a wood board and see how that goes. Will go to the range with 20 loaded up and that will sufficient of a shooting Session. You are right. Never had one but instantly in love. I will post some targets hopefully tonight vs my other smiths.
