Default A model 36 came home with me

Just got home from a gun show. Picked up a Mod36 no dash complete with original box, docs, even the corrosion inhabitor paper. 1 7/8" bbl. r/b. Grips number to the frame. Looks like it's been shot very little, no marks, scratches, bluing loss etc any where.

Serial number is 3168XX Closest I can come to a DOB is 1963.
Can any of you distinguished gentlemen give me any better clue on DOB.

Haven't even had time to clean it up yet. Really appreciate all of the knowledge available on this forum. What a great bunch of people.

My book shows 295000 for 1962 and not much else, '63 is a good guess.

Early '60s Chief - my first gun - sorta. It was my dad's (Ohio sheriff's deputy for a short while) and hidden (so he thought) on the top shelf of his closet. Got the bug...

Congrats!! Seems like quite a few people have become new model 36 owners over the past few days by the new threads posted. I just got my first model 36 a few days ago as well, but have not had the chance to shoot it yet. Let us know how you like it once you shoot it.

I carried a 36 off duty off duty way back in the '70's, but mine never had a flat latch like this one. After a couple of years bought a Mod 66 2 1/2" for off duty carry and like a fool sold the 36 but I still have the 66............even shoot it occasionally.
