Default Found these on the way home from the OBX

Found these two on the way home from the OBX, I'm waiting for them to get to my FFL.

Sorry for the bad picture, hope to have some better pictures soon.

Congratulations! I sure would not mind a 4" 28 myself. Do have a 6" no dash though! Bob

I do not believe the Pre 10 was re-blued, but I'm not 100% sure.

I did ok, I think, as I payed $650 and $200.

Trigger and hammer look blued, I'm sure you know the grips are much later. This M&P is much too early for a pre-10, shipped sometime before WW I.

I hadn't gotten the chance to look it over real well, and I would trust what you see, more then I would trust myself Absalom, so when I get it in, I'll look it over real well.

While I was getting info together (FFL information, address, etc) I was offered the M&P at $200 and figured it was worth the chance, even with not having a chance to go over it real well.

Thanks Absalom, and would appreciate any other thoughts you have on it!

And yes, I was aware about the grips, and have thoughts of changing them over to another!

Thanks again Absalom!

From the looks of the photo, you really couldn't go wrong at that price. For a fully functional K-frame shooter without corrosion, $200 is a good price any day, no matter the finish. And the blue on the barrel shows a lot of honest holster wear, so any refinish would be a ways back. Besides, the dark color of the trigger/hammer may yet turn out to be a trick played by the lighting .

As the mushroom-shaped ejector rod knob precludes a non-mentioned prefix, the serial puts the gun definitely before the hardening of cylinders that started in 1920. It likely dates to 1911/12; someone else will have a closer guess. But you should stick to mild target loads. The original stocks would have likely been checkered wood with recessed gold medallions.

From the guys at Elizabeth City Pawn & Guns, they were great to talk with and deal with!

Bob took good care of me, and then they set me up with a great lunch at Hoppin' Johnz, on the way out of town, which I also highly suggest!

Unless it is a 98% gun, $650 would be a bit high for the 28-2 in my neck of the woods, but the $200 for the shooter grade M&P would pretty much make up the difference. Heck ANY S&W that will send 6 rounds downrange without shaving and spitting any lead out the sides is worth $200 these days - and that one doesn't look to be in bad shape at all, even if it has been reblued. Heck My latest purchase was an old shooter-grade 1917 commercial that someone had been chromed over rust pitting and I paid more than that for it!

I don't see many Model 28's in my area, so I may have gone a bit high, but it was in very nice shape, so I couldn't help myself.

There was no way I could say no, to $200!

Glad we were able to offer you some down-home hospitality while you were visiting our fair state! And the fact that you left some money behind, too, makes it all that much better!

Neat....and since I live next to the Southern terminus of the Outer Banks, aka 'SOBX', I'm curious where you may have found these also.
With the nearby Marine bases of Cherry Point and Camp LeJeune, I've found my area to be mostly the land of AR's, Mossbergs and Taurus'.

I always enjoy my time in the OBX vigil617!

I am down for 2 weeks in the spring and 1 week at the end of summer/ beginning of fall each year, as I own 4 units at a time share in Kill Devil Hills, so I have left my share of money down there!

BTW, I swear that I gain 20 pounds every time I'm down, as the food is always unbelievable, as is that "southern hospitality"!

I wish someone would sell some guns like that around here, even if they do have blued hammers and triggers. I think you did just fine.
