A LGS has a half a dozen S&W revolvers on consignment. The former owner was a police officer and his wife put them on consignment. They are all, IMO, priced at Gander Mtn. retail, plus but, they are all in 95%+ condition.
One of the group is a 686-4, 4" wearing Pachmayr grips, no box or tools but, a "free" holster. It is priced at $700.00 and I made an offer, based on condition and availability, of $600.00 about two weeks ago. The LGS called yesterday to say that the offer had been accepted.
There is no sales tax on consignment firearms in TN and with the background check fee of $10.00, I'll be in to it for $610.00. Not a steal but, a fair price I think.
There are a couple of 629's in the group and of all things a Mod. 57. The problem with the 57 is that he owner sent it back to S&W to have a Mod. 29 cylinder and barrel installed!
There is a letter/invoice from the factory but, the LGS doesn't know if the original parts were retained or available.
It is amazing to me what is still out there, waiting to be found. I'll post a photo or two after I recover the 686. It will be right at home with the 686, no dash, 6" and the 686-4, 2.5", its new brothers!
