Default I have a sickness called Snub Nosed Revolvers

I have a sickness that is called Snubbies. Not sure why I liked them, but I do. Sorry the picture is not to good, but am learning a new camera. The top piece is a 3.5 M27-2, next is a nickel M15-3 2", then a M36 and finally a M342.

I also have four snubs. They just feel, shoot and look so good. Only S&W is the 640-1. LCR 357, Rossi M685 and M88. They all make good CC guns.

Nothing else does what a snubbie does with the same sense of style.
Anybody here ever watch Get Smart. Don Adams almost always had a nice S&W J frame... either a Chief's Special or a Centennial, I seem to recall. That show really put snubbies on my radar (along with Barbara Feldon!) when I was a kid.
I read where Don Adams was given one of the Centennials as a gift when the show ended. A lot more Hollywood folks were gun guys back then.

The only treatment for Snubbies is a visit to your favorite gun store.

I feel your pain, Brother. I really don't know haow many I have, never got them all out for a photo shoot probably a couple of dozen Smiths, and a dozen Colts. I'll be back later if I can put together a list. They are habit forming, and practical as well. I always have one on me.

PS...there is no cure.

Best Regards, Les

The "Snub Bug" bit me a few years back. I can't explain it either. I think it was a natural progression from short barrel autos (Colt Commanders, Officers, Defenders, etc.). I OD'd on those. I think there's something about big power in a small container. These are some pictures I have on the phone. I might have a problem too.

629-1 Horton 44 Mag. (Advert Photo but I'll get around to it)

24-3 Horton 44 Special in nickel

24-3 Horton 44 Special in blue w/issued holster

Family photo (stainless, blue & nickel)

19-3 in .357 nickel

Colt Cobra .38 with S&W handles (haven't changed the medallions yet)

Colt Lawman III .357 in Coltguard (e-nickel)

657-4 Horton 41 Magnum, 1 of 154

296ti Air-Lite in 44 Special

Colt Detective Special 1967

Colt Detective Special 1974 (Everyday Briefcase Carry)

Snubbies are great... except when:
a) adj sights
b) N frame.
Something wrong about those. IMHO.

Welcome to the club!

Heck, I even consider my 3-inch GP100's to be snubbies!

You can hide a snubby much easier than a combat shotgun.

People are probably getting tired of seeing it, but I love this one I just picked up from another member here...

I am 99% sure it started life as a Brazilian Contract 1917.

Chiefs (7), Centennials (4), and .32s (3)-- oh, the choices.

And then, along came this one.

Faced with an ongoing threat of magazine limits, and with more criminals in large cities wearing soft armor, there's something reassuring about 700+ ft-lbs of hard-cast lead, delivered from a tidy package.

Now then, that's big power in a small container. Good thing it has provision for a lanyard, you do have to find it, after you shoot it.

Naw.

In old fighter pilot lingo you simply "get a grip."

It's not like riding a bull; you don't have have to stay on for 8 seconds.

I have a Combat Shotgun too. It is a Remington M870 Mk1, I use to teach a Combat Shotgun Course in the Corps. Yes, they are hard to hide, but very effective.

Real snubbies come in 45 (long) Colt, too. This one letters to John Jovino. Where is the line between snubbies and big bore belly guns (BBBG)?
I've posted this one before but couldn't resist.

How's that song go? "If loving snubbies is wrong, I don't want to be right."

My meager "collection":

If 3" barrels count:

Snub addiction is the correct terminology and there is no cure. It can be control only by the lack of money....

To me, your Jovino BBBG is a snub. I think the line starts to get blurry at barrel length. I think the line stops at 3" barrels for snub revolvers. Ok boy's, I need to stay alert now - somebody's gonna take a swing at me for sure! I'm weaving, I'm bobing - you should see this foot work!

Hey Jeb, do those S&W stocks fit the Colt Cobra without
any alterations or fitting? What were they made for - J Frame?

Thanks Sir,
That was quite a little fitting project. There is zero room left in those J-frame RB grips. I did the hard part and then haven't changed the medallions yet, no excuse. I have never been able to find combats I like for the Colt D-Frames.

No Sir, it was major surgery. They were made for J-frame RB. I Dremeled them out - over sized, for the "short, square" Colt grip frame and re-fitted them with Acra-glas. I think I have some photo's of the process if you need them.
P.S., When I say over sized, I mean .05", there is no extra room in there. The grip shell is very thin, but the frame is entirely bedded in Acra-glas, so they're as tough as Acra-glas.

As of now I have 6.

Model 60 that I purchased in the mid 1970s.
Model 15, purchased in late 1970s.
642 no lock purchased a couple years ago.
2 Colts one a .38 DS and a Cobra .38 both purchased within the last 4 years.
My now carry gun a Ruger LCR.38

Been looking at the new Kimber. Its a bit pricey for now but I have examined 4 different ones and all have a great trigger pull and I like this new Revolver. The new version of the Cobra also sounds nice. I might have to come back soon and up date my total in the first sentence.

I'd love to see them if you could post them (maybe a separate thread?).

Again, it was just MY opinion. But, if you accept the raison d’être for snubbies as being a concealable, light, close quarters weapon, then my rationale should be apparent.

4" max for me.
3" max for snubs.
I like all calibers, but have a special affliction for big-bores...

Interesting you brought that up!

The NS was originally .455 Ely, and it has British proof marks. One of the stag panels is marked, "Harrelson RL, USN". So, it did find its way to an American serviceman. It was one of several that I bought from the estate of a collector who had passed. There were guns that dated clear back to the 1860's. They were brought in by the surviving sister, appraised by Jeff at my LGS, and sold on consignment. I was one of just a few that got to see them before the rest of the public. The only long gun was a Winchester Model 92 that was a little more than I was able to come up with.

My 1st snubs were J frames. Model 36. 2" R.B. & 3" S.B. I could not do much with them. (probably just me) So, March of last year I switched to a 10-5 R.B. snub. MUCH better! So, in March of this year, I picked up a 66-2. They both shoot well! That is the extent of my snubs. They are growing on me. The 36's are gone. Bob
