Default Unusual marking on stocks **PIC ADDED**

I just picked up a 12-2 Airweight round butt from circa 1972 (D417xxx).

I took the stocks off and they are numbered to the gun. They also both have the letters "A R" stamped in block letters on each one. Any ideas as to what this means??

Best,
Charles

Initials of the original owner perhaps? Other than that, I don't know.

If it's a factory stamp, it could stand for "airweight roundbutt"
Those grips are unique to your gun and will not fit other K frame roundbutt frames

That's probably it. The Airweight frame has a different designation.... KA or something like that I think.

Thank you!!

Charles

Yes. The M&P Airweight/Model 12, from 1953-1986, had a frame with the KA factory internal designation.

I'll check my square butt Model 12 & see if the stocks are marked "AS". They will solve the mystery.

Best,
Charles

A pic of the marking. It appears on both stocks.

My square butt model 12's stocks are not marked.

Best,
Charles
