Everyone has one, opinion that is and TH,TT & TS even if re blued is a nice shooter target revolver. Depends on what one is looking for. About $100 more then I would pay, but hey, got what he wanted....

Someone bought it strictly for the looks, obviously not a collector.

I was watching a police trade in 3" 65-3 last night on GB.

It looked like it was in pretty good shape, except the grips were rough. Minuets left it went to $707 min bid, I really wanted it, but not that bad.

Kinda wish I had now, but I'm betting it would have went to $800 or more. Plus adding in the probable $65 to $70 for shipping and FFL.

The Net has screwed up the used gun market forever. When you
walk in a auction that has a computer bank that looks like a
Jerry Lewis Telethon, you are wasting your time. People bidding
top dollar on guns that they only see pictures of. Most of these
are sold "as is". 60% guns going for Hi condition prices!

No, it has not. Thousands of buyers and collectors, and regular ol' people like me, don't have the money or the time to travel all over the country looking for a particular gun.

Regarding live auctions with huge "computer banks"...the gun market is a business. The seller's goal is to make money. The more people who have access to bidding, the better the chances prices will increase during the bidding process.

I've sold some guns online and face-to-face. They've all been sold "as is". What do you expect? While I can tell a buyer that I've fired the gun x-number of times and with this or that ammo and it works fine, I sure can't warranty it free from defects and offer to repair or replace it. I'm not the factory. With the exceptions of a few NIB guns I've sold, they've all been used guns.

So? It's the market. No one is forced to buy a gun from any source, online or otherwise. It's a free capitalism-based economy. You don't want to pay the seller's price, try to negotiate the price downward...or look somewhere else.

For my part, I'll keep the Net. It opens up a whole world of specific makes/models that I may never run across locally.
You set your limit, make your bid, and let the dice fall as they may.
The old rule applies: Something is worth what someone will pay for it.

I'm a GB buyer and seller. Woodlawn Boys have guns we dream of. You have to be careful and buy from respected dealers. Fugate, really good stuff. You must ALWAYS have a price going in and stick with it.

Please read and understand posts 8 and 10. If you can't afford to play in the deep of the pool stay out of it, but don't be upset with those who can.

I know I've paid too much for some guns, got screamin deals on others.

One gun I paid too much for, I had only seen 2 or 3 times on GB.
When I finally decided I wanted one, I saw the price & decided I was going to buy it.
Haven't seen any, zero, zip zilch, nada, since.
So I'm glad I bought it.

I don't like Gunbroker much, but I love Armslist and other online classifieds. It's very difficult to get a diamond in the rough on Gunbroker --- some smart collector is going to figure it out and bid, and then another savvy guy, and so on. Yes, sometimes there's a crazy low BIN on a nice gun, but again with thousands of eyes on the site it's pretty rare that it's going to be you that gets lucky.

So, I am the guy that paid $751 for a reblued model 14. I knew it was reblued, knew it had incorrect grips and knew it didn't have a patridge front sight. I live on an island in Alaska, population 2700. No local gun shops and no gun auctions without spending $700 to fly to Anchorage or Seattle, plus hotels and car rentals. I happen to have a nice set of period correct grips to go on that gun and it fits nicely with my other model numbered, no dash, 4 screw shooter quality guns.
The internet works for me. Thanks for your comments.

Capstan:
Nice gun! I actually like the ramp front sight better, especially if you going to be taking it in and out of a holster.
As for what you paid, I realize some "experts" said it is not worth that, but yet many, many guns sell for what they say is too much. As the old saying goes, "it is worth whatever someone pays for it." I would have probably paid what you did if I was looking for one.
A few years back, there was another post about someone paying too much for a gun. The buyer paid what someone else said was way too much and that they were available much cheaper. I wrote that person and offered them $100 for free. All they had to do was find a similar gun and in similar condition (I was actually looking for that one) for what they said they were going for. If I could buy it at that price I would send them $100 finders fee. Never heard back....surprise, surprise, surprise.
Again, sorry for getting off track, you have a great pistol there and let us know how it shoots!

Between schill bidders, ppl who get caught up in bidding wars and folks with more money than knowledge, GB has been insane lately it seems (esp when it comes to military stuff).

Woodlawn Boys lets the market decide the value with true auctions and no reserves. The other one is overpriced in their reserves and on their website. Yes, they do have some good stuff, but I know too much about the guns I'm interested in, and have the patience to wait for the right gun at the right price.

I have done well both buying and selling on gb. Keys as mentioned are to have a price in mind and not go over. I agree with regional issues like the Alaska poster mentioned. Before I moved to Arizona I was a prisoner of New York - horrible taxes gun laws etc. but some of the politics kept handgun prices lower than free states, and the shops I frequented always had dozens of used S&W revolvers on hand. Last year before moving I asked the shop owner for a shooter grade model 15. He brought out a bankers box with about 12 piled in there and told me your pick 300 bucks including tax. I ended up with a pre model number with matching stocks about 80%.
Since moving to free America I have stopped in many shops and have not found a single one with more than about six used classic smiths in stock and as otherwise mentioned shooter grade guns at collector grade prices.
I had been looking for a good fairly priced shooter grade 34 2" for the last four years or so and finically one a gun broker bid on one. By the time I paid shipping and transfer it was $550 which seemed high to me but ultimately I thoroughly enjoy the gun and probably over paid little. In all the shops and shows here in Arizona I have only seen one priced at $750.
When it comes to selling too, you get best money with a national audience. Some guns are simply far more common in some regions than others

Capstan, it sounds as if someone was upset that they did not get a revolver they wanted for well less than market value, whatever that may be. I'm glad that you got the revolver you wanted. Enjoy shooting it.

Have you noticed the new hype by auction companies. To make
buyers feel better the new way to say you were the top bid is
to say you won the item. Now I know at auction the high bid
is the winning bid, but not in the same context. You can pay to
much for a item but still feel good because you "Won" the item.
Take me to the auction Clem, I want to be a wiener too!
I have give up auctions besides Internet the buyers premium,
Sellers fee, taxes, handling and shipping fees there are to many
scammers. Any time big money gets involved things normally
go south.

I've purchased 3 off GB in the last year, including one from the Woodlawn Boys. All have met or exceeded my expectations, and all at what I considered a fair price. All were advertised as 98% plus guns and all had a 3 day inspection clause. I would NOT buy one that didn't or was simply sold "as is".

I have never bought from Armslist. I almost did a couple of weeks ago but the individual wanted payment through Walmart. Is this a normal process? I ended up not going through with it because I felt something was wrong with the deal. With GB I felt more secure with my translations. Anyone have something similar happen??

GB has a feedback system.

Armslist does not. Armslist also has a large number of auctions that they have marked scams.
If you are a seasoned buyer who can read people over the phone, then maybe armslist will work for you. I have bought on armslist, but I talked and knew a little more about the seller before sending my cash. You can always tell the buyer you want to come by even if you're 1000 miles away. If he says no, it's a scam.
