I have a Smith&Wesson .38 special CTG 3 in barrel
Serial# 60288 MOD 36

Welcome to the Forum,
The serial# is on the bottom of the grip frame. The number you show is a assembly# that kept fitted parts together during the assembly process and means nothing once the firearm leaves the factory. Turn the gun upside down and read the serial# between the 2 grip panels on the frame.

You will find the serial# on the frame between the wood stocks.

The three inch 36 is a desirable gun, likely worth over $500, add another $100 for the original box if you have it. Is there something else you want to know?

I do have original box and papers for it, plus cleaning rod. It has probably had less then 300 rds through it. Plus kept in a controled safe.
