Question Curious Model 60 no dash serial number

Model 60 no dash Chiefs Special, no pinned barrel, non-diamond round magna grips.

Serial number: ANP6*** (4 digits following ANP prefix).

Anyone knows the meaning of such serial number for a Mod60 no dash?

Guesses:
-The dash-1 is there but it's hard to see or the dash-1 is below, above or to the side of the model number?
-The guy or gal stamping the model number forgot the dash-1 stamp or ran out of room and couldn't fit the dash-1 stamp?
-Older frame (i.e. no dash frame) left over and used during the dash-1 production run and they didn't stamp the dash-1?

The Model 60 no-dash was made 1965-1972.

The Model 60-1 was made 1972-1987.

The pinned barrel was eliminated in 1982.

Triple letter prefix serial numbers started in 1980.

ANP prefix serial number would be from circa 1986.

Maybe it was an earlier -1 and they still had no-dash stamped frames as you suggested?

EDIT: does not make sense either as by serial number this would be towards the end of -1....

That looks just like mine. Model 60, no dash, no pin, with a Serial # of AND5928. The book says mine was made in '85.

Guys, guys, guys!

The Model 60-1 did not replace the Model 60. The dash 1 was a special square butt, 3" heavy barrel version of limited production. The Model 60 (no dash number) remained in production until 1988, when the -3 came into being.

The OP's Model 60 was made in 1986.

Jack is correct, the model 60 production run spanned from SNs with six digits, the R prefix (with the deletion of the barrel pin in there), and the three letter/four digit format. Similar to the model 36, which was produced for nearly 30 years and replaced with the -2, the -1 being the 3" bull barrel version.

To make things less confusing , there were two model 60-1s - the 3" square butt from the early '70s, and the 2" square butt with Target rear sight from 1985.

Thanks Jack and Alan!

This one is not mine, I was just looking at one for sale and the serial number detail caught my eye.
