Default The & on my 66 no dash is different.

Was just looking at my 66 no dash dated around 1975 and noticed the & was different from all my other Smith revolvers from same era. Is this common or an anomaly?

Now you've given me a reason to run down to the safe and take a look at my stash of S&W's.

My 4" 66-nothing has the lazy ampersand like your 2nd pictures. Serial number on that one is 4K588XX.
My 2.6" 66-nothing has the backward 3 like your 1st picture. Serial number is 6K653XX.

The backwards "3" were most common in late '75 through early '76 I have been told.
Yours was probably produced in that time period.
Here it is on a 19-3 I owned...

It's a 1975. Another fellow told me his snub with it dates to 1974.

Just as a point of passing interest, note how closely the "backward 3" resembles the letter E. This style of ampersand is actually the closest to the origin of this character. Imagine a small serif across the toe of that figure, and you have a script rendering of the Latin word "et", meaning "and".
A little something from my linguistic studies during the last century.

Reminds me of an H&R Garand I once owned.
