29-1 Collection
There are still less than 30 documented 29-1 .44 Magnums. Here are two of them. Thanks for looking, and I would personally like to thank my friend Chuck Odom.
1) 6.5", shipped 5/29/62 to Oshman's Sporting Goods, Houston, TX. This is one of the first two shipped. It was shipped in May of '62, which is the first month that S&W started stamping 29-1's.
2) 8 3/8", shipped 1/23/63 To Pittsburgh, PA. The original clamshell case is so minty clean, that I prefer not to even keep the tools in it.

Man, talk about a 44K retirement plan! And I'm NOT EVEN going to ask if you're gonna shoot them. 😁

Both appear to be bull or straight bbls, any info if all were that way, any variations?

Scarce guns... Especially difficult to find in such nice condition! The Clamshell cases for those are equally impressive. Congratulations and thanks for showing them.

Quite possibly the first 29-1 ever shipped. Happy 57th Birthday.

Thanks again Chuck.

WOW! beautiful revolvers. truly humbling for beginning Smith gatherer like myself. i buy shooters only so as not to devalue the true collectables. thanks for sharing. i am new to the Smith quest and hope that this covid thing is taken care of so that someday i can go to a gathering of collectors and admire their goodies. what a preview thanks again, kenny

All M29's and M57's have bull barrels (no taper just beyond the frame)

Those are two truly magnificent specimens. Since the M29-1 was only produced one year, how many were supposedly made? As far as that goes, how many no-dash M29's were made?
I figure the dash-2 is the most produced series, since it went 20 years until the dash-3.

4-Screw is very fortunate to have acquired two rare and beautiful 29-1 revolvers. Aside from the beauty of the guns, the grips are outstanding and rival many done by custom makers.

Here's another one for your records; also found in the Pittsburgh area. Not as pristine as yours, but still pretty nice:

Well, you could go for a 4" blue 29-1, then all bbls in nickel, then start on 27-1s, 17-1's, and on and on.
Nice 29-1's

I remember as a kid going into the Oshman's store in Pasadena Texas even bought a gun or 2 from that store. Great sporting goods store in the day. They sold out to Sport's Authority who could never keep up with Academy and they went under. Great looking 29-1's by the way

Yes, great store. I used to go to the ones in Arizona when I was young.
Thank you for the kind words everyone.
I am not sure of the exact number of how many 29-1's were actually made. Bill?
