Default 38 spl Model 60 any info

Good day fellows,
Long time reader and follower first time poster. Looking at this model 60 and wandering if anyone could share some insight. Seems like a good deal and I want a nice shooter this one happens to be on my door step. Looking for any info that you may be able to share. I attached some photos we'll see if I got that right. It has been carried extensively hence the wear. I'm not looking for a show gun or a safe queen so I'm OK with it having a history.

Thanks in advance,
Lumpy

Welcome! It's a pinned barrel version and dates to between 1968 and 1981. Stainless cleans up nicely, so if it is mechanically sound with a good bore and chambers there should be no concerns with buying it. Similar guns have sold in the $450-500 range recently. Good luck in your decision.

Thanks for the response the gentleman that owned it was a lawyer and is in his 80's now not sure what point he got it. His collection was sold and the man that got it has a model 60 so the reason it's for sale. I guess the lawyer had it for 40 years or so.

Thanks again I'm new to the revolver community, although I do have a nice Dan Wesson in 357 with a 6 inch barrel. One day I'll put up a few pick of that, if you allow Dan's on the Smith site Haha.

Lumpy

Dan Wessons are nice but have to go into the "Other Brands" section .

Welcome.
I own 12 Model 60's. IMO, you can't go wrong. I carried one for most of my career as a police officer, so you could say I put my life in it's hands.

I have one in .357 and as noted 60's carry great and fit the hand very nicely.

That's honest wear that I see. If it's mechanically sound and reasonably tight, it oughta last for a very long time more. It's a revolver you can carry and shoot without worrying about giving it a scratch or two! That said, I'll bet it will clean up nicely and look better than it does at the time you took the pictures. Just make sure it functions well and properly.

This was the first stainless steel framed revolver that S&W made, and they sold like hotcakes! You covered up the wrong end of your serial number so we can't tell you when it was likely made. But I will say this, I've never seen or handled a Model 60 that was not a good revolver. Mostly, these revolvers were carried a lot and shot not so much. I dunno what it's asking price is ... that could make a bit of difference, but if it suits you, I doubt the asking price is too much!
