Default Model 10-6 Age

I have a Model 10-6 with a D480XX serial number. It has a heavy barrel and is blue. Looking for the age. I got it in 1980, but was probably 15+ years old then. Photo attached.
Thanks.

The book says 1968. Note that there are only 5 digits after the D.

I can get you pretty close. I have a 10-6 with serial D473xx which shipped on July 24, 1968 to the NYPD Equipment Section. They didn't necessarily ship in strict serial sequence, but probability says yours belongs in the neighborhood.

Do you have the original grips with the gun? The diamond was deleted in 1968 from the grip.
