Default S&W Model 53 Question

I have a model 53 with the 22 Jet cylinder. This pistol only came with the 22 LR cal. inserts. I would like to add a 22 LR cylinder to the gun to make it more convenient to shoot. My question is: Does the cylinder and crane have to be one made specifically for the Model 52 or can I substitute a 22 cal cylinder from another S&W model(S)?
Jim

I think that you will have a hard time fitting a cylinder of any type in a model 52.

Unfortunately, after being a wise ***, I don't have the answer as to a cylinder for a model 53. Good luck with your quest.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

IIRC, the cylinder for the 22 CF was longer, so to maintain the B/C gap when it is changed, the 22lr must be longer than normal as well.

As Pizza Bob alluded to, the Model 52 is a semi-auto pistol. The Model 53 is a K frame revolver chambered in .22 Jet.

Excuse my mistake as it is a model 53 of course. I should know better than to post something before my 1st cup of coffee! I went ahead and changed the post.
Let me revise my question as well:
I understand what you are saying about the 22 LR cylinder but would a 22 Magnum cylinder perhaps be the correct length?

Unfortunately You need to find a cylinder from a Model 53. A cylinder from the other K 22's is to short. The 53 cylinder is 1.67 inches where the other cylinder is 1.62 and You will have too much gap. I have seen model 53 cylinders in 22 LR for sale from time to time but now they are going for $400 and up if You find one. I went through many different brands of 22 LR in the inserts before I found one that would shoot really good. My 53 likes Remington Viper and shoots 1.5 inches @ 25 yards.
Good luck in Your endeavor.

As Dave says, a 22LR cylinder will run at least $400 if you ever find one. They are very hard to find. With a price of $400 you are getting close to the price of a nice M17. Let me know if you find two. I have been looking for years. Big Larry

Another possibility is Hamilton Bowen... at one time he was making custom 22 cylinders for K-frames. Perhaps he makes one long enough for your needs. Just a thought.
