Default S&W Model 15-3

I found a 15-3 at a local LGS. It is probably 90% or a little better. They are asking $489.00 plus tax.
What's a good counter offer?

Default S&W 15-3

Jump on it! Absolutely the best S&W out there IMO. The only thing I have found better is the M66-2..

I would pick that one up quick. IMHO that is one of the finest S&Ws ever made. Beautiful, easy to hit with, fine sights and capable of fine accuracy.

Some days I wonder if all these new bottom feeders are really progress at all.

You could always ask for $489 OTD. That's worked for me several times.

Agreed, offer $480 out the door. If they don't take it, go ahead and pay the asking. I done that before. Sometime it works and sometime it doesn't. When the drool is running off your chin as you are looking at it, it is kind of a dead give away.

If you snooze you lose. BUY IT!!!! I have a 15-4 in about 90 percent condition, great trigger and lockup. But someone scratched some numbers on the left side of the frame. Otherwise, absolutely a great gun and shooter. Fantastic trigger.

Agree with all responses. I have a 15-3 and paid a bit more than that for it at an auction a couple of years ago. It was about 95% with matching numbered grips.

Buy it before it is gone!

Default Model 15-3

Patriot04,

You will never regret buying a Model 15-3; they're all good guns. I bought this 85% one at a local gun show in Ocala last weekend to replace the 99% one that I foolishly lent to my sister about five years ago.

One of the best deals that you will ever make. Do it now!!! These are one of the finest revolvers that Smith and Wesson ever built. I seem to buy one whenever I see one for sale. Up to 8 or 9 now... I've got to stop!!!! But I stand by what I say. Get it!

Model 15's seem to generally be a real good value. As others said, maybe one of Smith's best .38 revolvers. I don't see people getting real big money for them, though. Yes, I see people asking big money, but not necessarily getting it.

My view is buy it if you want one. And if you don't have one, you should want one...if you like target revolvers. Don't, however, buy it thinking you'll make a quick 200 bucks, because you may not. To me, it sounds like a great value more than a great deal, because model 15's are currently undervalued. Too many pawnshops/hunting departments see them as model 10's with adjustable sights, and I'm not sure that's an accurate assessment.

When the vintage gun buying public wises up to model 15's the values will shoot up, in my opinion.

I would have pounced on that without even making inquiries here. The K frame is the ideal platform for the .38 special , and the model 15 is a great version of the K frame.

A sweeter shooter would be difficult to imagine.

I was fortunate enough last January to win this pristine 15-4 on Gun Broker for 4 C-Notes. The seller lived only two hours from my house, so I drove his place and made the trade in person. I couldn't believe how nice this revolver was with target trigger/target hammer and it came with all original papers & box (no tools). It was like looking at a new gun.

My wife and I took the Combat Masterpiece to the range and it shot too well. So well in fact that my wife claimed it as her own! It now resides on her side of the bed in her nightstand. She lets me look at it from time to time.
......Life does have its difficulties.

Thanks for looking a my wife's Combat Masterpiece.

God bless,
Birdgun

I always offer at least 10% less than the asking price. The worst thing that can happen is they'll say no. I can always pay the asking price if they do.

As others have stated, run, don't walk and buy that gun. You'll not regret it and that is a fair price for it.

I have a M15-4, and I agree that the 15 is one of the finest S&Ws ever made. I picked mine up a couple years ago (for under $400, but without the original grips) and it one that I ALWAYS take on range trips. It is scary accurate.

In fact, I spent this morning at the range and the 15-4 was shooting 148gr wadcutter handloads into 1.5" or smaller groups at 25 yards (from a rest, of course). Recoil is almost nonexistent, the sights make shooting easy and the trigger is almost perfect.

In short, it is one of my favorites and it will always live where I live. If I found another example tomorrow for the price you mentioned, I'd definitely be a buyer.

Okay, got to the LGS and she was still there. Out the door was $455.00.

All I'm planning is a good cleaning and a new set of after-market grips cause I plan to shoot her. S&W Model 15-3

Great purchase, I believe you'll enjoy her.

She deserves a set of really fine wood grips (since you're going aftermarket), or perhaps stag or some other natural material.

Whatever you decide for grips, enjoy that one. It is a fine example of the art.

Also, when you do add different grips, pleas update the thread with pictures.
