I have a Model 57, 6", .41 mag, blued that I'm curious about.
It's in decent shape, but not pristine. Was carried while hunting for a number of years.

I'm assuming the Pachmayer grips were not a factory option.

Serial # is N490***

(why hide the last 3? Seems that's what everyone does...)

You are correct. Those stocks were added later on. It would/should have shipped with target stocks. I'd say the serial # puts it about 1978. Some feel that posting the entire serial # would allow someone to claim it was their gun and stolen. Seems like a stretch to me but that's the thought process as I understand it.

Looks like your front sight insert has been colored black with a marker/paint?

Hello jp and welcome to the Forum. Appears to be a well appreciated
Mod-57. Used for its intended purpose. Some people hide the Sn.,
do as you wish. I would say mid 1970s. If the rubbers suit your hand,
use them. 41s can be a hand full. Best

If rubber grips must be used, I like them on my ccw guns, I'd go with the presentation rubber grips. I like the 41 magnum round.

I wouldn't store it with rubber grips on. They are notorious for pitting the metal underneath. I would put them on to use it, but remove them when storing.

I've got no info to offer, but I do love the S&W .41 Magnum

That could easily be my old bowling pin shooting gun. I think I had the Pac. Presentation grips on mine though. Very fast and very accurate on the pins with 210/900 loads. Didn't have to necessarily hit the pin dead on to send it off the table. I've often wished I had that one back.

Yes it has been painted. But i'm sure some denatured alcohol or the like would take it off. This firearm was my fathers. He preferred black sights to all that "glow-winky trick stuff".

I regret selling mine, bought it new. The 41 is a wonderful caliber and the model 57 is as good as it gets.

Put several rounds through my 657 yesterday. Steel was ringing out to 150 yards. Great caliber and great guns. I really like that blued one too. Sure can't have to many 41's.
