Default Model 66 No Dash Question

I just picked up a 4" model 66 no dash with a round butt. Is this uncommon? All of the early model 66 I've seen have a sq butt however I see and learn new things here everyday. Serial # 8K182xx. Does have S.C. LED stamped on trigger guard which I have no idea if a department gun or placed there by an officer. Never seen a Law Department Gun stamped on trigger guard either. Any information would be appreciated

Likely a 4" barrel swapped onto a 2.5" model 66 frame, if the grooved rear grip frame is intact (the grooves would not be sharp all the way down to the bottom if a square butt frame was ground down to RB contours). No idea about the trigger guard stamping but someone here has probably seen it before. Cool gun.

I'm sure that's what the stamping stands for. So far after talking to a couple of agents, the last revolver they remember being issued was the mod 15, but there were divisions that used different weapons. I'm wondering if this is a factory stamp, armory stamp, or someone had added. Very nicely done, but I've never seen one on the trigger guard

Very nice. Uncommon but it wouldn't be the first special order S&W did for LE.

Are there any stamps on the cylinder (V, R, etc.) and the left side of the grip frame?

I thought the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was abbreviated "SLED".

It is, but I know this gun has been owned by at least one "SLED" agent. Trying to track that person down to see who stamped the gun

Back in 1979, I bought a 4" blue M19 and round butted it. Used it at the police academy to qualify Expert. The round butt revolvers fit my hand better. Wish I still had it. Ex-wife wound up with it.

There is a V on cylinder and C15, G2, and what appears to be C1 on left frame
