A LGS posted this photo yesterday on fakebook.

A 14-3, 6" barrel, pinned barrel for $450.00, along with the holster.

You guys are much more knowledgeable concerning these things than I am. I'm going to look at it this morning.

Please share your opinions as to value, condition etc. This is the only photo available.

If it checks out well mechanically, get it!!!! These guns are great shooters and that one is not "collectable" so it will be easy to shoot and shoot! IMO, that's a very good price for one of these in today's market, and it has been a good average price for these for a long time. Like the K22 in the same frame, everybody ought to have one. If the other side of the frame looks as good as the one shown in the picture, it ought to clean up nicely and be something you can be proud of! Just check it out closely for fit and function, and maybe ask the LGS to remove the grips so you can check out that area. Hopefully the sideplate screws are not buggered and there is no push off of the cocked hammer.

If you want a 6" .38 to shoot....... not going to do any better than that;if it checks out.

The LGS might see a 6" .38 as a slow mover and have priced it to sell.

Yes, I agree a very nice price for a Md. 14. I don't see them very often and the one you are considering looks like it will clean up quite nicely. And having the original stocks and a vintage S&W holster is another plus. Nice K frames at a nice price should not be left behind. Good luck.

Like everyone else who has responded here, I think you should pick this one up with no hesitation (assuming it checks out mechanically).

If I saw it for that price I would buy it, regardless of the fact that I already own several 14-3 revolvers. That price is too good to pass up.

The holster looks like it might be a Hunter, probably of the same vintage as the revolver. I have a few of those that I bought in the 1970s. They are well-made of good leather and very serviceable. I actually wish I had a few more of them.

Update:

I brought it home with me, he came off $25.00 from the asking price. It's in better shape that the photo suggests. The only wear is the holster wear on the left side at the muzzle and where the cylinder was rotated. Doesn't look like the side plate has ever been removed. S/N 8K92XX. The holster is a Hunter.

Good for you, Leon. You got a GREAT revolver for a very good price. Now go to the range with it and then report back to us what you think after! I'm betting we get a good report, especially if you've never had the privilege to shoot a K-38.

1975 from SCS&W IV. I have it's twin brother, 8K85(8 or 3)07. Bought it in 1978 and won my first shooting trophy with it.

Nice job - and as mentioned, everyone should have one! Mine, from 1974, is one of my favorite revolvers for sure. Bought from a member here (thanks MAG-NUM!).

Joe, I'm going to give you the same advice I've given many times in this type of situation - Don't collect 200 as you pass go, buy it!!!! Great buy and Jesse James wore a mask!!

Very nice. Glad you picked it up. My 14-2 is currently my favorite gun to shoot.
