14-2 Question.
Did all the Model 14-2's come with diamond grips? Seen a few without them and just wondering if they are replacements, or if they were gone near the end of that model run. Thanks.

Model 14 diamond insert grips were deleted in 1968. Same time they began using the "D" prefix on serial numbers.

I believe the Directive came down in the Spring of 1966 for Magna grips, not targets. I have a Dec. 1966 Mod. 28 with non diamonds. Not numbered but fit perfectly. I bought it from the original buyer who never turned a screw on the gun. May be this is a period of inter mingling. Who knows?

Doc44 (a very knowledgeable member) recently posted this:
Directives to eliminate the diamond around the escutcheon and nut on all stocks except NT and KT (target stocks) were issued on October 11, 1965 and January 11, 1966, and marked the beginning of the change to modern style of stock without the diamond. Magna stocks without the diamond first appeared in 1966. The directive to eliminate the diamond around the escutcheon and nut on NT and KT stocks was issued on December 28, 1967. Diamond target stocks were exhausted by January 1969.
The 14-2 was made from 1961 through the end of 1966, and some likely shipped in 1967. So you can draw your own conclusions. It is a near certainty that some later Model 14-2 revolvers shipped with Magna stocks that lacked the diamond. We have no way of knowing how many.

Apples and kumquats.
The D prefix was used on fixed sight K frames, never on the Model 14.
