Default DPD Revolver

The widow of a friend of mine has a DPD Commemorative revolver issued in 1978. She would like to sell the revolver and she has no idea of the value of said revolver. The gun is un-fired and is in the wooden box issued with it. Can anyone provide with information so I could pass it along to her. Thanks very much for your assistance with this request.

Being from the Dallas area I've seen a number of these come up for sale from time to time. I'm not sure how many were made actually made. It's a small collectors niche of people who go after the Commemorative guns. I've seen asking prices all over but it would seem that a standard model 66 of that time period like new in box with a 4" barrel would bring about the same money as the DPD Commemorative 6" barrel model 66. So my opinion it's value is around the $800 mark. Good luck.

Commemoratives are always tough for me. The seller usually wants a premium for it even if the condition of the piece, or the market doesn't bear this out. I think it is because the original owner told them the piece is special and worth a lot of money. I personally don't really care what the piece is commemorating, if I'm interested in the piece, it's as a shooter, and I have no interest in paying more than I think its worth. If the revolver in question is as you describe it, I think the value that Lonestar57 provided is within reason.

Regards,

Dave

By DPD, do you mean Dallas PD, Detroit PD or? I think you may mean Detroit PD as I bought mine while on the job in 1978.
As mentioned, Commemorative's are not such a great investment.
There is one on Gun Broker now which has been there for months now at $1250, and it will probably be there a long time at that price. I'd ask $900 and then work from there.

This may not be 100% accurate, but should be close...Dallas PD commemoratives were ordered in '81, distributed around late spring, '82. Others may have more exact information. I think the price was $400.00; wooden box included a belt buckle inscribed with officer's badge number.

I still have mine... It's complete, unfired and has the optional numbered to the gun Buck 110 Folding Hunter and belt buckle...... I knew a few officers who carried theirs as their duty gun after they received them.

The few I have seen for sale have been in the $900-1200 range but I really don't know any actual selling prices.

Yep you are correct, just looked it up in the Standard Catalog. Dallas PD commemorates 1881-1981. Must be talking about Die-Troit.

I picked up a 19-4 CA Highway Patrol Commemorative in 2014 for $875.
Beautiful 6" model with wooden case. Something else that could make a difference in price is the model, I noticed there was no model number in the original post. I'm assuming it is a 19, so I'll go with the $8-900 mark.
