Default long term storage in a presentation case

So, was told by someone who should know???

Can store a gun in the presentation case if:

1.Wax with Ren Wax
2. sandwich between the rust inhibiting paper
3. store in safe with a heater stick.

What are your opinions on this.

I would think some airing or air movement would be necessary.

I have two that have been in wooden boxes in my gun safe since 1981. Every five years or so, I will wipe them with a greasy rag. Can't imagine why anyone would put wax on a gun. Whether it does harm over the long term, I don't know, but it's not necessary.

Ren Wax does a superb job of protecting both metal and wood. I think that the process outlined in the OP would be fine. It wouldn't hurt to check the gun every year and re-apply wax as needed.

If you do a search here on the forum you'll probably find yourself in the minority in this section of the forum. A lot of members use Ren wax or Johnson Paste wax on their guns. I think it's better than oil for storage. Oils attracts dust, dust attracts moisture, moisture on a gun can turn to rust. If it's good enough for museums, it's good enough for me.

I didn't imply leaving the guns oily. Only a very light wipedown with a greasy (oily?) rag has worked well for me. If the "majority" has found wax to work well for thirty five years or so and they like to wax guns, I'd encourage waxing.

It is always best to store a revolver separate from its "presentation case". Also, several types of case used over the years have liners and coverings that deteriorate quite rapidly and will damage nickel, blue, and wood finishes. Why take the chance?

Default Store Revolvers and Cases Separately

Listen to Doc44! If you're storing your S&W revolvers in a S&W flocked presentation case, you're rolling the dice as to whether or not the interior of that case deteriorates into sticky powder or not. That residue will attach itself to your firearm and its stocks, and it's a bugger to remove- even if you've applied RenWax or something similar. You also run the risk of staining your case's interior if there is a little too much oil or grease on the revolver. I don't even keep revolvers in the cases that Joe C. has relined for me. Besides, if you're keeping everything in your gun safe, why fill the safe up with boxes? I keep my firearms in the safe, but the boxes (cardboard or presentation cases) on top of the safe and on closet shelves (I do leave a little note in each case so I know which revolver goes with which case). Everything is in the air conditioning, and I haven't had any issues.
