Default Two 66's, local flea mkt.

Surprised to see these at my local flea mkt. Good gun place though. One is very short barrel, other is either 6 or 6.5. Wasnt much interested in either as no boxes.

Very short barrel looks hardly used, story was too violent w/.357 ammo. LGS exchanged it for something else. No story with the other one, shows use, didnt like rubber grips. Both high polish........or are they all high polish??? $800 & $650.

Will look again tomorrow.

Hi heck,

Model 66 dash? It can be kind of important to know the engineering change you're looking at when comparing prices. All else being equal, I would personally go for the short barrel every time.

Best of luck with your search.

Are they lock? Pre-lock? Dash # ? I don't own any with a lock, but it seems to me the newer 66's were more of a "satin finish. Someone that owns one should pop up. I might could go $8 bills for a nice pre-lock 2-1/2" 66, ........if I could even find one at that price. Love to see the photos. Did you bring one home?

Oh I feel the pain.......I empty my pockets as fast as they get full, but when I found this one locally I did not hesitate. I am still looking for period correct banana stocks but may just as easily throw on a set of stag round butts on it.......

No, factory finish (unless a special order) Standard finish was a matt finish. It was not uncommon for owners to polish the finish to one degree or another.

As for pricing, $800.00 for the 2 1/2" model, IMO, is $50.00 - $100.00 high, unless it comes with the factory box, paperwork, and cleaning kit. If the 4" is in excellent condition $650.00 is the top end of current prices they SELL at.

You do have to remember prices on these revolvers have taken off in the last few years, so who knows what a "sane" price will be in 12 - 18 months?

Keep us posted on what you do.

Depending on the area it's not unusual. Prior to our STUPID SB 941 in Oregon it was not uncommon to see a few guns at garage sales, flea markets/swap meets etc. - but not anymore.

Default S&W flea mkt

Gents, I have lost use of my left hand...swollen & severe pain from knuckles to elbow.......totally lost as to why.

66-2 2", someone traded a newish plastic 9mm auto in & gave $600. Doubt either a home polish......gone when I got back 10am Sat. This gun reminded me I have 2" gun in a cabinet next to the front door....blue 15-3....grip bottom marked 8K510xx. When was it made.???

6", turned out to be a 4", -4 or -5. Should have gone on this one, I know there must be some wood grips available. Local seller I know.

Flea Mkt guns.....always 4-500 guns there, outside, I never go into the 3 blds. 200 (????) vendors.

Freedom hasn't died yet. No reason firearms shouldn't be freely traded. My state doesn't require a shred of paperwork on a private sale.

Consider yourself lucky - we as collectors/enthusiasts lost our FTF deal ability with SB 941. It has really affected us - or should I say those of us who comply. Several sheriffs in mostly rural counties have said they simply won’t enforce the law at all.

Me neither. It's all about the quality of the gun.Nice guns float my boat.Cardboard? Not so much.If they were new, unfired, perhaps a different story. The snub was "too violent"?Shoot 38 specials.
That said, the seller was looking for full blown retail/gun show prices,so nothing special there imo. ...and I suspect that they were "enhanced" with some polishing.

I beg to differ. I wouldn't want to find out that I was selling to felons or others that aren't supposed to have 'em.Worse yet,if they were later used to shoot someone in a crime or terrorist attack.
My state requires that all firearm transactions be conducted at a FFL, where the buyer is run through a background check. It costs a few bucks, takes a little time, but I'm fine with it.If that buyer turns out to be a straw buyer for someone else, that's on him. I'm clean.

Thanks for the info on the flea markets, guys. Didn't realize that in some places the sales could be completed that way on handguns. Here in North Carolina, we can conduct a private sale between state residents as long as the buyer has a pistol permit. The flea markets I am familiar with are for folks who (probably) don't need any sort of business license, so as long as the sellers are offering guns they own themselves, and require the buyer to show a permit, I'm sure the sale would be OK here too.

I beg to differ also. I buy as many guns face-to-face (no paperwork) as I can. The Goobmint is the last entity I want to know what and how many of everything I have.

It's called "FREEDOM". What you want is "Nanny State".

"Beg to differ", indeed!

This is a valid point however in all the years of FTF transactions without an FFL transaction there has not been any evidence of a gun used in a crime because of it. Now I agree it would be difficult to to actually track this but most of the people who actively bought & traded FTF were responsible and vigilant about it and would deny a sale to anyone they felt uncomfortable about - I did once. Bottom line is all this has done is to make it very difficult to buy and sell as a collector - and it has had no verifiable impact on gun crime in general - which is typically low in Oregon anyway. One of the biggest problems with the law is if one is NOT an active trader/seller/buyer or otherwise 'up' on gun laws they may not know the law exists and sell FTF unknowingly. Friends and family are most likely not complying and many are very vocal about it.

In this state, you're clean without a FFL transfer / background check as long as you believe the buyer is eligible. That's all the law requires.

The law doesn't forbid a person from transferring a firearm through a FFL. It is simply not required. And we don't have a problem in this state.

The anti-gun people in my state (MN) tried to make face-to-face gun sales illegal here. Somehow the good guys prevailed, and it got defeated.

It really chaps my *** that folks here on this gun site want to see private gun sales made illegal.

(Edited to avoid another rap across the knuckles).

Nice - ours got pushed through as an 'emergency' bill by the state without a vote by the people! - There was no 'emergency' about it - just BS politics by a lesbian stand in Governor we had thrown on us.

I wouldn't pay more than $400.00 for the 2 1/2" or $300.00 for the 4".

My state requires that all firearm transactions be conducted at a FFL, where the buyer is run through a background check. It costs a few bucks, takes a little time, but I'm fine with it.If that buyer turns out to be a straw buyer for someone else, that's on him. I'm clean.
In our state most sellers simply require a valid DL and CCW permit. That covers your background check and eligibility concerns.

In Ohio, buyer & seller need to show OHIO drivers licenses to each other.
This applies to private sales. You can not legally sell to anyone out of state. Bob

Here in Arizona FTF is legal, If you don't trust the seller, or the buyer, just walk away. Also if you find the gun on line, ask the other party if you can do the transaction in a local PD or Sheriff station. If he doesn't want to, than you have your answer right there. The anti gun crowd are chipping away a little at a time, they don't give up, they won't give up. We have to be as agressive as they are. I am pro 2A and I vote that way.

We don't have gun sales at flea markets here, but we can do FTF sales and most are done through Armslist or one of the other online classifieds. Some local PD's have a room at the station where people can meet to do sales where they feel safe, no charge. Alot just meet at Academy's parking lot.
I'm sure sellers use the same logic they do at gun shows and online ads, "price high, then negotiate", almost everyone will go down some on asking prices. I wonder what those revolvers actually sold for?
I'd hate to see us have to do this through FFL's. The shops here have jacked up fees to transfer for guns buying through Gunbroker. They want $45 now.

One reason I had an FFL for so long was to do "FREE" transfers for whomever.

Following that line of thinking, when you sell a car do you check the buyer's driving record to see if he has any DUI's, speeding tickets, etc.? Better check his criminal record too; a careful guy like you wouldn't want to sell a car to someone who might use in in a bank robbery.
