Default A Model 66 - Scratched Up at the Factory

With it being all scratched up, should I send it back and get the factory to buff it out?

Seriously...the model 66 is one of my favorite S&W revolvers. I had this one out for a little air time. Thought I'd share it with the rest of you. It shipped in March 1975 with the stainless rear sight.

Thanks for letting me share

Love it, love it, love it!! Your collection of "scratched up" guns may be second to none in my mind! Do you know if it was engraved before it originally shipped, or was it sent back to the factory later?

Spectacular. If I had one of those, I'd make a point of having my weekends filled with barbecues! That gun is just to pretty not to be admired by as many folks as possible.

RK, even though that 66 is all scratched up like that, I will help you out and take it off your hands for the generous price of what the going rate of a new 66 sells for.

Beautiful revolver man, thanks for sharing it with us.

Nice revolver. The early stainless steel rear sight is a neat feature.

Now that looks much better. I don't know how "RKmesa" could even accept such a scratched up gun from the factory

It left the factory as you see it and letters as a "Special Engraved Variation" that shipped to JS Oshman in Houston, TX (where a bunch of my engraved guns shipped).

The engraved ones are hard to clean, so for most every model that I have, I do have ones I shoot bullets from, and ones that I shoot cameras at...

This 3"er is my Model 66 go to shooter. It has been lovingly hand polished (Flitz and Mothers) by me, modified with a McGivern bead on a Patridge front sight and has had a trigger and action job from Nelson Ford. It is probably the smoothest trigger pull of any revolver I own and when I do my part, it puts .357 caliber holes where I aim. The smooth polished stainless finish makes it easy to clean. It also helps that it is pretty easy on the eyes.

Don't bother with the factory, I've got a Dremel and some emery cloth. Send it to me.

Why yes...yes they are... That style of Ahrends is my favorite RB K-Frame grip for shooting. Too bad they don't make them in the cocobolo any more...
