Default Model 12

Hello, I have a few questions about a model 12 that just came into a friends gun store. with what appears to be a slightly bulged barrel. (I think it was a 12-2, but I can't remember right now) It has a square butt frame and a 4" slim tapered barrel, the gun has some finish wear, but was still nice & tight.

Are the threads on the barrel the same as other K frames ? can I use a barrel off a Model 10 ? Are the alloy frames difficult to remove the barrels from ? (more so than a steel frame ?)

Thanks in advance for the help !

Consider test firing the Model 12 prior to installing a replacement barrel.
A bulged barrel. The weapon's accuracy might not be affected.

The threads are the same. Barrel removal on an alloy frame is a stinker job.
The frame is prone to twisting, so proper gigs have to be used.
I would shoot the gun first. Sometimes a bulge does not affect point of aim or groups. Go shoot it first. Nice carry gun. No diet of hot food. Best

Best to fire before buying. If you can't, probably shouldn't buy. If you do buy without firing, $200 OTD absolute tops, better $150. If it shoots ok, let your conscience be your guide, but remember that YOU won't be able to sell it so easily with a bulged barrel.

Check the bottom of the frame where the barrel screws in for a crack. A crack is not a fixable problem.
