S&W 29-2 Box Question
Have an unfired NIB 1978 vintage 29-2 in a flawless factory mahogany box with all original paperwork and tools, but the flocking does show some wear. Would repairing/re-flocking add or subtract from the value of this box? Think the issue here might be authenticity vs. appearance.

When presentation boxes look bad, they look really bad. Naturally, if you "restore" it with material cut from an old pair of blue jeans, I image many would say you reduced its value. But if you bring it back to its original condition (or hire someone to do so) I doubt anyone would say you harmed it.

HINT:
After the Presentation Box gets repaired, get a hold of some S&W logo VOC sheets (available from S&W if you call) and wrap the gun in that within the box. Not only will it greatly help keep moisture off the gun, but it will keep the gun oil from getting onto the flocking of the restored box. Should last a very long time that way.
