Father's Day came early!😊
Well, I lucked out after all. i made arrangements to run by and pick up my model 57 early this morning after having the owner agree to hold it for me. It's a 57 no dash, pinned and recessed with six inch barrel, nickel plated, target trigger, hammer and adjustable sights. Serial number puts it near the end of '79, or early '80. He said that he had more inquiries about it than he could count, but he held on to it for me all day yesterday. Here are a couple of quick pictures of it. I'll get it cleaned up over the weekend and take some better pictures. Do you think it would be worthwhile to get a factory letter on it? I don't have box and papers on it.

I would not spend the money on a letter for a gun that shipped post war, especially one that shipped in that time frame. It went to a distributor.
Nice gun though even if it does have small holes

Model 57 4 inch:"Another early Fathers Day"!
Been waiting to post this beauty on the forum. Model 57 .41 Magnum, 4 inch blue, Altamont stocks. 1975 production, TH, TT, WO, pinned, and recessed. Just absolutely gorgeous!!!! If it has been more than test fired...minimal. Mint everywhere, hammer has the best case hardening I have ever seen. Estate sale find.

Any tips for safely cleaning the nickel finish? This is my first nickel plated firearm and I'm guessing I can't go about it in the same way as I do with stainless steel.

Nice guy but not worth $75 to find what distributor / hardware store it was shipped to... spend that $ on ammo!

Mothers Mag Wheel Polish applied in small circles with a clean rag.
Buff it with a different clean rag, when the rag gets black, move to a different spot on the rag.
Then put a coat of renaissance wax on it. It will shine like the sun.

Thanks for the pics. Looks like a nice gun - congratulations!
If it's a late 70s gun I wouldn't spend the money for a letter. Still a nice revolver and easily worth what he was asking, in my view. Happy Fathers Day in advance.

I learned the hard way, Do Not Use HOPPES #9 On A Nickle Gun! Otherwise, yes, clean as usual. You scored a beauty right there! One of my Dream Guns! Congratulations

What should I use as a powder solvent in lieu of Hoppes? It has a pretty good buildup of powder residue I'd like to remove, but now I'm a little wary of what to use.

I got it cleaned up a little. It still needs a better cleaning and polishing, but I'll have to wait for Amazon to drop off the balistol, flitz, and mothers mag wheel polish. It is absolutely stunning! I've never owned a nickel plated firearm before, and I'm amazed at how brilliant the shine is. I took a picture of it next to my stainless 610 for comparison of finish.

If you think it would be fun to know more about the gun, go for it. There are certainly worse ways to spend $75. Congrats on a beautiful revolver.

Actually, more likely shipped around March 1976. Purdy!
