Smith barrel stamped 22 Magnum
I have a question about a gun that I don't have a lot of information on. I was sent a picture and it is a blued smith with "22 Magnum" on the barrel instead of "22 WMR". Is this done on some of them? There is supposedly another cylinder with the gun for 22 lr. I have limited experience and just havnt seen one marked thus way. Thanks for the help.

Yes. A Model 53. That's the only one I know of with .22 Magnum on the barrel and that shipped with two cylinders (one for the Jet cartridge and one for the .22 LR).
The Model 48 (.22 Magnum) said 22 WMR CTG on the barrel. WMR stood for Winchester Magnum Rimfire. The Model 48 also had a non-shrouded extractor rod.

And FYI, that extra cylinder is worth a few hundred by itself.

Thank you for all the help. They don't have the jet cylinder, only the 22lr, which was not what I understood. Also, it's been tapped for a scope. But it's in great condition. Just not appealing to me at $1,000. Seems high.

I agree. Seems high for just a 22 LR
If that was what I wanted I would just buy a K22.

Yep. Skip it. For that money you can find a Model 53 that still has the Jet cylinder.
