Ok, I was in the LGS this morning and they had a model 28-2 in the case. S/N N110xx. 4" barrel, original box, papers and opened tools. Very good condition - barely a turn line, just a slight hint of holster or sock-drawer wea on the barrel crown. Excellent stocks. Opinions on what this is worth? They were asking $1095 and said $1000 would take it home.

but I've got to say in W.Pa. .......that would be a $600-700 gun.

4" guns tend to go for more than 6" 28s. That one is price like a 27; that is not " as new in box" Last fall a bought a nice shooter grade (+90%) 4" 27 for $600 not far from Pittsburgh.

That seems a little high. I just bought a beautiful one last month off the big gun auction site for about $600 including shipping and transfer. Yesterday my favorite Pawn Broker let me put one in layaway like you describe for $500. But every region is different.

I just acquired SN: 111652 without box and tools for slightly over six hundred prior to sales tax. Mine showed no wear but a slight turn-line. I would easily of paid a hundred more for it. Then, I would of paid a hundred more for the box and etc. You see my point. The two prices are coming closer and closer together. My sales tax was sixty dollars more, and you are getting one without sales tax.

A lot will depend upon the availability and local price of nice older revolvers in your area. In my area, a thousand is closer to the price of a Model 27.

Probablly $850 or so around here...selling quick at that price,though.

Mod-28s are still hot. He will get his price, just not from me. In FL. at a show I would say and seen $750-$800 exchange hands. Follow your instincts.

Seems a tad high. but if you're happy owning it go for it. It will be worth that someday soon.

Thanks all. My gut is telling me it's too high. I think I'll let this one go to someone who wants it more than I do, though it will be the first one I let get away that came with the box and papers. Just seems like they overpaid for it and are now stuck trying to get their price. Oh well...

I see this all the time unfortunately, more than a few retailers around me that way over value their used guns and refuse to negotiate, even when the gun does not sell for several years.

So, $1095 for a 28-2... And I thought the one I bought was overpriced at $700. As others have said, that's a price for a Model 27, and even then a Model 27 that is 90% condition or higher.

Good decision. Way too high for a 28. That is 27 price range. I picked up a very nice 5" 27 (gun only)recently off that one big auction site for just over 7 bennys. Like mentioned earier, trust your gut.

I was just in my favorite LGS and found a 98% model 28-2 in the original box it barely has a turn line on it and is bank vault tight. It also has slight muzzle wear, and I do mean slight. There are no other signs of wear spots on it anywhere and the wood grips are as sharp as the day they came from the factory. The original tools are in the box as well. He is asking $650. I guess that is well in the ball park.

To high IMHO. It would have to be like brand new with the box and all the little goodies to be worth that. You can still buy decent shooters between 90-95% for around 6-700 and really nice ones for less than $900. Even better deals are out their of course, if you look enough.

I just picked up an unfired 4" 28-2, serial N118xx for $650 out the door. No box or stuff, but absolutely no wear on it. Came from a collection of several hundred guns (got a 3" 657 as well with Combats).

I just picked this one up for $525 shipped. It had Pachmayers on it, I supplied the diamond magnas. Has a pretty strong turn line but little other wear. Super-tight and very smooth.

Like Bam-Bam said, every market is different.

Here in the Midwest I recently paid right at $800 for that model new-in-the-box. To me ...... his asking price is plenty high. But if you are comfortable with it ..... only YOU have to be pleased!

Congrats on finding one .... they're plenty scarce around here.

$400-$450 in central Illinois gun store.
